We had the same thing where we lived, and found out it was skunks looking for bugs. They come late evening and sometimes can leave a mess. Good luck

Are there many holes, and do they leave small mounds where they come up? If so, I'm sure this is a mole. If it is, they are difficult to catch. Good luck! :)

Where we live now we have mole and gopher problems. The bigger holes are often skunk and badgers.
