Cutting is bad, in part because of what you have experienced: it hurts less as you get used to it, and eventually you will move on to something more hurtful. You need to find out why you are doing this and substitute some less harmful activity or even stop needing to do it (called extinguishing by the mental health people).

Well, I've had a couple of friends who'd admitted to me that they cut, and I don't think they fully understand the impact. Both of them are doing really bad in school, maybe that's because of the cutting, or why these girls started. While it's probilly not all that that harmful to you physical, what are you going to do later in life? You can't go swimming in public wearing a bikini, can't go to doctors appointment without being nervous that he'll find the scars. What about when your married or in a serious relationship and you can't hide the scars? Then what?
I took the time to find a support website for you, if you want.

Yes it is as bad as people say. It is worse because of the mental affects than the physical problem. Of course it is physically harmful, it doesn't hurt because you are in a state of mania and cannot truly feel the pain at the time of the 'cutting'. However it is painful to the body, it leaves scars, you lose a lot of blood sometimes, and can even damage nerves that can be painful in the years to come. But the worse part is the reason that you are doing this. I know you say you feel better afterward, but this is not a healthy way to relieve stress, anxiety, depression, or whatever it is you are trying to escape. You need to see a physician immediately. Truly, you do. I wish you all the luck and recovery in the world. Please take my advice.

YES!!! Cutting IS as bad as they say it is. I'm not the type of person to say don't do it because I don't like people getting mad at me for saying something they don't want to hear, but there are so many risks in cutting that could wind you up deader than a door nail or with serious other problems. There are other things to make you feel better about situations other than cutting...

You better beleive that it is bad, mostly for the reason that you could get very bad infections at the laceration site, also you could sever one of a few arteries that could cause you to bleed out quickly. There are a few nerves that run in the wrist that if cut will really affect you and make you look silly and last of all you should seek counseling to develop other ways to release, I know that this is a good release for you but if you found other alternative ways you will be surprised how much easier and rewarding they can be.

Yes. It is as bad as people say. It is not a normal outlet for relaxation of happiness etc. There is an underlying psychological reason for this. You need to seek professional help to get to the root of the problem ASAP. I had a good friend who was bipolar who also did this. Bipolar would not be the only condition it comes with.

I think its the depression that is the root. see, depressive symptoms mean, something is paining inside. she is taking the cutting pain so to divert her mind from that of within. the heart ache is much more intolerable than the cut. cutting gives her a sense of ruthlessness to herself.may be that tells her that she is strong. she may have pent up grievances that she is unable to express. so she is reducing that by being hostile to herself. you need to find out what triggered the depression. may be that would give you some ideas about what to do.you need to earn her trust. I know for a fact that Angellina Jolie was a cutter too, and her father had left them when she was a child. sometimes, dysfunctional family can cause this. my best friend used to cut open her arm whenever something went wrong. she did not have anyone to depend on or to make her feel wanted. so she vented in this way. it was only after her boyfriend made her swear on his life that she stopped it, out of sheer fear of losing the one person who loves her, make her happy. the addiction is almost gone now. though at times she still has trouble controlling the impulse.

cutting in itself might not be really bad but it is usually a symptom of a bigger problem. if you are feeling bad enough that you feel like you want to cut yourself to feel better you might have a problem with depression or anxiety. I would see a counselor if you have the means.

yes. it leaves permanent reminders of your tendancy for self mutilation which might nto always be something that you want to see for the rest of your life. it makes you feel better because it realises endorphins in the brain which dull the pain and make you feel kinda good. you can get the same effect from going for a jog or hike...things that are actually HEALTHY for you. try this instead of cutting.

People who self mutilate are in serious need of mental stabilization. They have a problem and its as though they think its a way of getting attention. They get it alright but for the wrong reasons. See your doctor or psychiatrist...Get Help woman!!!!
