I have an idea I want to hurry and patent, but I don't have much money! I could work on getting a business loan, but I don't have good credit either.

What's the best "order of operations" for this?

ALSO HOW MUCH CAN I CHANGE AN INVENTION TO GET A PATENT. FOR EXAMPLE, SOMEONE INVENTS A TV, BUT I INVENT A PLASMA TV. HOW DIFFERENT DOES THE NEW INVENTION HAVE TO BE?

You need to hire an Intellectual Property Lawyer. They help you write out the patent so it doesn't clash with existing patents, and do a patent search plus the filing. The whole process, cheapest is about 12,000.00 excuding fees.

What is Intellectual Property?
Intellectual property refers to creations of the mind: inventions, literary and artistic works, and symbols, names, images, and designs used in commerce.

What I did:

I shared my idea with a few select potential investors and raised the money required. I had to give them an ownership percentage of the patent.

This doesn't matter really. IF the idea is that good, it will generate enough revenue. At least more than zero, which is what you would otherwise have if you can't file your idea.

I hope this helps.

You can't patent an idea, you need a working model of your invention.

Then you need to do a search to be sure the invention, or something very closely related, hasn't already been patented. Then you apply for a patent.

It's possible to do without a patent attorney, but in reality you'll probably need one.

See http://www.uspto.gov/ for more info.

Good luck.

You could go to the library, and get the paperwork necessary to do your own patenting. You don't need someone else to do it for and also charge you for the privilage.
Good luck!

Dont bother. It will cost thousands, and end up getting stolen anyway.

You could copyright it, which would be much easier, & you dont need an attorney.
