Time, like other dimensions is not a manmade concept. There are no absolute units for any dimension. Man had a need to assign convenient units of measure to the world around him (perhaps because we were blessed with intelligence and are driven to communicate). Years, hours, minutes, seconds, etc are arbitrary measures just as an inch is an arbitrary measure of distance but time and distance both exist, nevertheless. The UNITS that we use are inventions of man. Our day is as long as it is only because of the size of our planet. Our years and our seasons are as long as they are only because of the distance and geometry of our orbit. Our seasons (both time and weather patterns) cycle as they do only because of the distance and geometry of our orbit AND the "wobble" of the planet as it orbits. NONE of the aforementioned is absolute in the universe. It's relevant only to our earth.
On another planet, and/or in another solar system they're completely different. But Einstein proved that time is in flux ... it's not fixed. The "time" (units and perception) that we're familiar with has meaning ONLY to humans here on earth. If two humans synchronized a manmade clock just before one went on an extended space voyage, both clocks would keep "time" anywhere in the universe perfectly relative to earth's time but the two clocks wouldn't necessarily remain synchronized. Time is not manmade, only our means to measure it is.

The sun rises in the morning and sets in the evening and that makes a day. The seconds, minutes, hours, weeks, months and years are man made segments of time but these seem to all be based upon the rising and setting of the sun and the movement of the Earth, moon and planets. When people talk about "wow man---the concept of time is a bogus man made thing" I have to laugh.

Time is a man made "concept" but wouldn`t it exist weather we were here to ponder it or not?
Most other living things go by cycles that I suppose would be a measure of time as well. Hmmpf something to ponder as I head off to work.

I don't know that there is any conclusive way to answer your second question. Newton believed that time was an objective thing, a part of the universe. Others, such as Kant, believe(d) that time is a purley human invention, merely a way for us to understand the relative movements of objects, velocities, etc.

Time is indeed a man-made concept. dividing up one's life arbitrarily into seconds, minutes, hours etc is solely for mankind's convenience and to organise one's life. In this day & age I regret that it is necessary. Hope this helps.

Really!
Animals have the urge to mate at specific times during the year, to travel great distances seasonally.
And my pets know when they are fed, and many times they know what I am about to do since they are used to my schedule.
Even plants -- what does harvest time mean if not that?

Are you my son? He just said the same thing a month ago. He thinks time is the white man's idea.

Well yea I guess it is. This question is borderline religious. You could go on about the fact that God the creator is eternal and that our souls are our eternal beings. If I may what brought this question up?? I like a good deep question.
