Most car doors are not even metal anymore, but a composite material made of up of several different materials. By making small adjustments to the amout of each material, they can get a final product that is more resistant to dents or easier to form into shapes, or capable of withstanding heat. The formula they use to create the material changes based how its being used. Steal is the same way, the differencees give use many alloys of steal.

Saturn is one of the car companies that makes dent resistant doors. I used to own a Saturn and the doors and front side panel were plastic. The only down fall is if you get in an accident the plastic pieces shatter. So even in a bad accident they are dent resistant.
