As long as your friend looks after their apparent wooden leg by varnishing it, there should nt be a problem. If the leg is in good condition it can also be used for a number of other things too, like an extension for snooker cue etc.

Ask him to stand for a while in a tub of creosote. The stuff will soak into the wood and preserve it beautifully for up to two years.
Make sure that he only wears a wellington boot on his 'natural' leg or his skin will stain something awful.
