I really like memory boards. They're a strong board with fabric over it, and then in criss cross patterns, there's ribbon that you can tuck pictures, etc, into. I have two in my room, and they have tons of pictures and small little paper souvenirs from different stuff. And the more "askew and messy" it looks, the cooler it looks later on, when it's really filled up.

You might want to scan and copy the pictures/postcards so you don't damage the originals and put those in albums where they will stay safe.
Go to Michaels, JoAnnes, Hobby Lobby or some other hobby store and look for books that give ideas on how to display your photos. WalMart might even have something or you could go online to Barnes and Noble or Amazon and see what they have. If you have a Half Price Book Store in your area, check there and save yourself some money. You might also talk with someone at any of these places for guidance and ideas. Michaels is a wonderful place for good books, ideas and help from their workers when you have questions.
You might also go to Cord Camera or a place like that and ask for ideas. They'd be the experts with the best way to post pictures so they aren't damaged and could give you ideas on what material would be best for this project.

I agree with several of the prior answers, or you could buy a big canvas and paint it a color as your background and then lay it out and see how you like it arranged. I scrapbook, so I did something similar, I used 12x12 canvases, hinged them and used them all in a big display. I collaged the photos and mementos to my liking and pasted them down, then sealed it with spray sealer. Good Luck and don't be afraid to do something creative, you never know, you may love the end result!

My step dad loved baseball so my mom turned one wall of our family room into a baseball wall for him, mounting all of his photos, cards, articles, etc. She got a whole bunch of different sized and shaped frames and painted them all the same color. Then she figured out what could go inwhich frame and after changing the layout 7 or 8 times she finally put them all on the wall. It helps to lay everything out on your dinning room table or a large workspace so you can easily manipulate them before you put them up.
Good luck!

Find a board that will fit them all (cardboard, etc) and start placing them without tacks or glue to see where they could go. You could also do the whole scrapbooking thing and pretty them up a bit to enhance the wall decoration.
Just be creative and do something that will make you happy.
