I was wondering why with my bike i can ride many kilometers without getting so tired, and if i would go running or jogging the same distance i would be exhausted. Why is this? is running so ineffective?
Thanks!

When you jog, much of the energy is lost to your body's up and down movement and lifting of legs. Since this is perpendicular to your travel there is no gain.

Riding a bike is simply more efficient. The wheels of the bike act as flywheels and store energy. The wheels turn the activity of bicycle riding into a smooth experince. The pedals tie the legs together and use the difference in force between to move you forward.

Simple machines are used to gain force. So bike is a kind of simple machine. When you apply force for turning wheel, this force is transmitted to the back by chains. Wheels turn around and according to their radius and number of turning, you cover distance with bike. So you use less force than running for same distance

It's because most of the energy is used moving you and the bike forward. When you run, a significant amount of energy is used to lift your body off the ground. In effect your body flies forward, but you expend energy each step to keep it aloft.
