yes, by game 12. If he doesn't its only because he is being sacked too many times........

That will be tough to do since he will be brought along slowly to develop his decision making (interception makers). The Raiders are apparently doing the right thing by not starting him his rookie year. We all know that the Raiders will not be terrific this year, but they are developing the pieces that a good quarterback needs to be successful. The offensive line had trouble last year, but that was more of a scheme problem, they do have the talent on that line. The tight end position, regarded as the safety valve for the quarterback, was addressed by picking Zach Miller. In Miller, the Raiders get a tight end who can stretch the seam and open up room for the wide receivers. The receiving core is not at a pro bowl level, but rookie John Lee Higgens and the rest of the veteran receivers have the speed to reach Russells bombs. The Raiders also seem to have a solid group of running backs. In Jordan they have a versatile back who should rebound from a sub-par season, and in Bush the Raiders may have picked the steal of the draft when he gets healthy. The Raiders surrounded Russell with the tools to be a success, it's not a stretch to think that he will be productive when he finally gets to start.

That's hard to answer. So much depends on JaMarcus Russell's teammates (particularly offensive linemen, and receivers); his coaches; his own commitment to staying in shape physically and also learning the mental aspects of playing quarterback in the NFL; and finally his mental make-up, whether he's the type of person that gets down on himself or not.

Dan Marino and Ben Roethlisberger each had two of the more brilliant rookie quarterback seasons ever, but they both joined playoff caliber teams, which is unusual. Most rookies that are starting, or being considered to start at quarterback at some point during their rookie seasons are joining a team that won less than four games the season before, so they usually have less talent in their supporting casts.

JaMarcus Russell may not do much this season, but I think that he has a chance, if he works hard, and is not the type of personality that gets down on himself when things don't go right. And then if the Raiders draft smart for the next couple of seasons, and coach smart, I think that Russell has just as good of a chance as anybody.

Breaking the intereception record will not only depend on JaMarcus Russell's play, but also his teammates: how good the line blocks, how good the receivers are at getting clearly open and taking the ball from defenders. And it will also depend on the coach's style. For instance: a quarterback in the more Bill Walsh/West Coast-style offense just isn't going to throw as many interceptions as one who is playing in more of a Sid Gillman/Mike Martz-style offense where they do more long throwing. A rookie quarterback who does poorly in the Walsh offense may only throw 12 to 18-interceptions, but he may also only throw 4 to 12-touchdowns which is what make the performance so bad. Whereas in the more wide-open Gillman offense, a rookie might throw 25 to 40-intereceptions, which is bad, but his touchdown total is liable to be higher like 10 to 20-touchdowns, just because the offense is more wide-open. So a lot of setting the interception record is going to depend on how liberally or conservatively he's coached. In the liberal Gillman offense, he might throw a lot of INTs. But in the conservative Walsh offense, he's all but guaranteed of not breaking the INT record.

Does anybody know what style of offense Kiffin runs? I know if Al Davis has any say, which I'm sure he does, things are going to lean more Gillman-style.

Are u dumb or just retarded? The Raiders have maid major changes in there line plus the D won't be able to tackle him anyways, oh not to mension the receiving core they've put together. He'll have a better rookie season than Vince Young, that is if he gets the same amount of starts. Josh McCown might steel the show for the first year.

Are you kidding me. Please, he has a great arm, I still kind of wish Brady Quinn was the one we picked as a Raiders fan but Russell will bring the Silver and Black from the ashes of the abiss in the NFL and in 2 years watch out everyone. We have a great defense already and all we need is one more reciever and that will be that. Not even close to the mark for interceptions ok...

J-Rus will do just fine. The Raiders of 2007 is a totally different team to 2006. This year the team is geared and fired up, i put them at 8-8 by the end of the season. However I don't think J-Rus will be the starter, I think Josh McCown will be...GO RAIDERS!

I dont think he'll break it but it will be close, especially being in the AFC west with great secondaries like Denver and San Diego. I say hais INT's willbe up in the high teens, low 20's.

Bailey (DEN) 2 of JR's

Bly(DEN) at least 1 from JR

You are assuming he starts from game #1.

I think whomever the Raiders drafted was doomed to be less than stellar. I do not care if Jesus is QB and the Holy Ghost is a WR. If the OL is composed of Mephistopeles, Beelzebub, and , um, other demons, the the QB will not be successful.

No way. The Raiders will never let him stay as the starter long enough to even approach the record. It would severely damage his self-confidence, which is all-important for a qb.

Yeah, the Raiders o-line sucks and he'll be pressured all season. He'll force his throws too much and throw alot of int's.
