Adolph Hitler once said:
"How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think."
"The great masses of people will more easily fall victims to a big lie than to a small one. Make the lie big, keep it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it."

Consider how so many 'patriotic Americans' choose to believe all the lies our government has told us:
a) The circumstances surrounding our involvement in World War II;
b) The lies about U-2 spy planes flying over the U.S.S.R. were only decimated after Khrushchev shot one down and displayed it for the whole world to see;
c) The events surrounding Roswell, New Mexico in 1947 and the Kennedy assassination in 1963;
d) The fabrications about U.S. battleships being attacked in the Gulf of Tonkin which got us involved in the Vietnam War;
e) The lies about 'weapons of mass destruction' that led us into a 'war' with Iraq;
f) The U.S. military lies about the affects Agent Orange might have on Vietnam veterans;
g) The lies about a third-rate burglary at the Watergate Hotel that ultimately resulted in the resignation of a U.S. President;
h) The lies about torture and sexual abuse of 'detainees' at Abu Ghraib and about 'secret' CIA prisons;
i) The suspicious circumstances surrounding the 9-11-01 tragedies and whether our government participated in - or at least knew about - those events.

As patriots, we have a Constitutional right - and duty - to question our government, be skeptical of what it says, and demand to know what it's doing. Only those who fear the government and stay 'in step' with the government's line of Nazi-inspired propaganda will become brainwashed into believing that our government is omniscient and without malice. Ben Franklin once said: "When people fear the government, it is tyranny. When the government fears people, it is liberty." Since the Fourth Estate no longer is our watchdog over government malfeasance, 'we the people' must be. -RKO- 05/31/07

a. People not well informed, generally (usually due to apathy when it comes to politics and current affairs) . They tend to believe that those in positions of power have their best interests at heart and that they should put their faith in the actions and words of those people. It's disturbing.

b. Yes - we should question everything, and especially the government. Not only should we question everything, but if we are dissatisfied with the response, then we should subsequently seek to obtain the answers and disseminate the truth.

I have often wondered that myself and it is really the media that controls what we are being informed about. What ever happened to investigative journalism? Michael Moore is the closest thing and he is just ridiculed left and right. Regardless of what 'party' you are, you should still want facts given to you and then what you do with them is your business. I also think a lot has to do with the fact that many Americans are old school and still think in old school ways. I don't think until the younger generations get to be 50-70 will this change.

don't get me incorrect, i comprehend the government can do undesirable issues and has finished a lot of undesirable issues. whether, the frightening element approximately it somewhat is that it sounds basically like suggestions placed out by potential of precise wing, anti-government communities like militias and white supremacist communities. (not saying you're a member of the two.) it is too plenty to remark on each and everything, yet enable's take this gun situation. the place is all this government attempt to eliminate weapons? i don't see it everywhere. yet while the government comes to a decision to regulate attack weapons, i'm concerned with it. we don't desire attack weapons to seek or defend our families, we've rifles, revolvers, pistols, and so on. protection rigidity weapons should not be dispersed for the time of the country basically with the aid of fact the NRA and precise-wing militias think of it somewhat is a sturdy theory. All this talk of the government removing weapons is maximum excellent some to react violently. like the guy that basically shot up the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC. And the guy some months returned in the east who committed suicide, with the aid of fact he theory "Obama became into going to take his weapons." Obama isn't taking all of us's weapons and whoever thinks those products up is barely stirring up hardship to enhance their own own schedule, not united states of america's.

you would be surprised by how many people do not believe what we are being told. most are afraid to say anything in public, it may be seen by some one who would consider it traitorous. any one who has a mind and uses it see what is going on and the sad thing is it is being allowed. we are in danger of losing all our freedoms if there is not a turn around soon.

This is why the founders believed in a limited government, people have better things to do than constantly worry about what their elected represenatives are doing to screw them over next.

Agreed to question is good. Disagree blindly and aggressively challenging government is good.

There are many checks and balances within our government. Stop with conspiracy theories and be an active citizen bettering your community. To put it simply, regardless of political affiliation our elected officials are doing their best.

People who tell you corporations are bad or the US is imperialistic need to be challenged.

The schools teach kids from a young age to be docile and do what you're told, believe what you're told.

They give lip-service to critical thinking, but if you try to actually practice it you WILL be punished.

I don't know and it's just a guess. Most cons grew up in right-wing households with authoritarian parents. They were brought up to obey only conservative leaders.
