I would never say never. I never thought Lou Gehrig's record for consecutive games would be broken.

The variable here is the rules. Will the game be opened up to allow offense to return at a mid-1980's level? Someone might have a chance then. Failing that, though, Gretzky's records probably will be like Cy Young's win total -- close to unimaginable.

I also think that the salary caps will hurt Crosby's chances.

For instance, say for instance 3 or 4 of the young pens become super-stars in the NHL. Those guys which help pad Crosby's stats will be gone within 2 years. Gretzky had Messier, Anderson, Tinkadin, Fuhr, Coffee for a long time and it's not possible to keep that crew together in the present NHL.

information are meant to be broken, merely look at Bonds chasing Aaron acceptable now for evidence of that. Borg's 5 consecutive Wimbledon titles? Federer equalled the mark decrease than 30 years later. in spite of the undeniable fact that, I doubt lots of Gretzky's information would be eclipsed in our lifetime (or a minimum of no longer for a million-2 extra generations). I imply ninety two objectives? Come on, that's merely stupid production. did you comprehend that interior the twelve months Gretzky published 215 factors, he had notched a hundred after purely 34 video games? those may be the difficult ones to interrupt alongside with 50 objectives in 39 and fifty one consecutive video games with a element. The occupation factors mark is the toughest because of mix of ability and toughness required. somebody might could submit an elementary of 191 factors for 15 seasons or 143 factors for 20 to realize Gretzky. the guy who manages to surpass those benchmarks of greatness would be a particular participant for particular.

I doubt I'll see any of his big records broken but it might be possible to break some of his playoff records.
Career points, 92 goals and 215 points are currently out of reach but hey Bettman might start counting SO goals on us.

Never say never with the way they like to tinker with the game. For instance, they have discussed bigger nets so I'll stay away from this one. If Crosby continues to improve then who knows? The sky is the limit. 92 goals seems unreachable though.

As long as the NHL continues to be a clutch and grab garage league, no offensive numbers will be broken.
