What part of the country did you visit? I would say there are many Americans who would fit that description, but there are also many who are very health-conscious and eat almost nothing but fruit and vegetables. I myself am concerned with organic foods and free-range and wild-caught meat, and at the moment have a garden with lettuces, broccoli, carrots, tomatoes, strawberries, blueberries, corn, garlic, peas, squash, potatoes, kiwi, and an artichoke. Do I break your stereotype?

so long as it's french fries. lettuce and tomato.
there is an old fear of lima beans, not sure if i ever ate them. mom has to force the young boy to eat thier vegetables. perhaps a self perpetuating theme from literature. women however stereotypically will eat salads or vegetables more often.

You have been running around all day talking about Fat Americans and their bad eating habits...munch on this!
THE DAILY MAIL REPORTS:
Special ambulances for beefy Brits
A new ambulance especially designed to carry heavier patients has been launched by St John Ambulance.
The move is in response to the growing obesity crsis in the UK. Recent figures have revealed that nearly one in four men and women in England are obese.
The First Aid provider has become increasingly involved in transporting the UK's heavier patients.
They said the aim of the adapted vehicle was to make sure that patients were treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their special needs.
Keith Hotchkiss, St John's transport services co-ordinator, said: "Over the last few years, we have been called to assist NHS ambulance and hospital trusts with the transportation of a number of obese patients around the country.
"These individuals often demand a vehicle with very specific capabilities in terms of size and weight-bearing ability."
The ambulance will be used in the Suffolk area and is an upgrade of an earlier model already operated by the charity's team.
It will be made available to NHS and private patients who require the specialist skills on offer.
The nation's obesity epidemic shows no signs of abating, with waistlines expanding in both adults and children.
In men, the rates of obesity almost doubled in 10 years - from 13.2 per cent in 1993 to 23.6 per cent in 2004. For women the increase was slightly lower - from 16.4 per cent in 1993 to 23.8 per cent in 2004, according to figures from the Health and Social Care Information Centre.

We don't rely on the government to tell us what food products are healthy. Our free enterprise media does. Go to the Yahoo! home page. They often have articles on healthy foods.

We eat veggies and fruit. It may have been due to your venue. Probably predominantly dining out.
