Yes you will save gas and it will only harm transvestites if they're standing in front of your car when you're doing it.
But seriously, it won't hurt the transmission. In fact it's better for it as being in gear creates heat and friction. Coasting does not.

If this is a newer car, many times you will actually be using more fuel since with your transmission engaged, your engine is running at it's optimal speed, which many times is below the set idle speed. Putting it in neutral increases the engine speed and uses more fuel.

you can save a considerable amount of gas if you coast in neutral. it is safe for your trans if the clutch is engaged. do not have the clutch disengaged because you will wear out your slave cylinder and clutch disc. good luck!

Bad idea, you will just end up paying for a brake job due to the engine braking you will loose-not to mention what could happen if you try that on a steep slope.
