I saw an article that mentioned Damon, but how are the Yankees going to unload him with that contract? 13.5mil a year. They are going to have to pay a sizeable amount. I don't see many players that are tradeable, possibly Matsui, although I don't think they will, any thoughts?

Large contracts don't automatically make someone untradeable so long as the original team is willing to continue paying a percentage of the player's salary. The Pirates are paying Jason Kendall to play for the A's. The Rangers are paying Alex Rodriguez to play for the Yankees.

Given that, I could see Giambi being traded to an AL team in need of some extra oomph at the DH slot.

The only players who are safe, are the ones with "no trade clauses" and Derek Jeter along with Chen Meng Wang. The guys who are a real possibility of being dumped (if they don't have the clause or waive it) are

Abreu
Giambi
A-Rod
Mussina
Proctor
Farnsworth
Visciano

Some guys don't get paid much or are worth keeping

Matsui
Cano
Posada
Rivera
Mankeivics (*spelling?)
Pettitte

This is not a complete list. Remember the Yanks don't care about money. Steinbrenner is 77 years old and he wants to win now. He can't take the profits with him. The Yanks care more about making room on the 25 man roster at this point and upgrading each positon. But to specifically answer your Damon question I think he and Matsui are worth their contracts and are not in any danger at all.

The bottom line is that Brian Cashman needs to be fired as GM. He is a joke.

I don’t know to much about dollars and what would have to happen to get this guy for that guy but if it was possible this is what I think

At this point being almost 15 games out of first I think if they could find away to trade there souls for first place they would. For the right price and the right people I think they would even give up Jeter. The Yanks have been backed into a corner. The best trade option they have is A-rod and Jonnie D. They need to cut there loses and give up the season and start focusing on next year. A-Rod could bring them a LOT of good players they can groom to be the next best and with a coaching staff like that they could make me a HOFer. I think there roster has remained the same for so long teams have figured out how to beat them and they need some fresh blood in there to bring them the wins they need. Jonnie D. will bring you plenty of talent and so will A-Rod.

The real answer to this, and don't be surprised when it hapens is....... Roger Clemens. Why pay 4.5 million a month for a guy that can not get them to the wild card slot? It will be a huge move, and they will pick up youth in the deal. Look for a team like Cleveland to pull the trigger on this.. Fausto Carmona may be the piece the Yankees need to develop a stable of young starters that will dominate in 2 years from now IE: Hughes, and others.

nobody because the Yankess only like trading young players ( ie Hughes) and they have very little left or they do not want to trade them. If a team trades for Damon or Giambi ( my gosh) Abreau, etc, etc, they would be crazy unless Yankees pay like 80% of their contracts.

It would be a great day if they traded Johnny Damon. I would LAUGH all day! Gee, he is sucking this year (ya i know injuries, but whatever who doesn't hurt) and his team sucks, is that why you don't hear to much from him anymore? He couldn't find enough microphones to talk into when he went to NY. His silence is a wonderful thing and says it all. Trust me, if they trade him, he will be throwing those his former yankee teammates under the bus too...he is two faced.

They are actively shopping Giambi. Even though he has a no trade clause he may want to extend his current contract with a new team. Team interested is the Angels.

Wang and Cano, they are young and cheap and pretty good. Teams would love to have these two players.
