Understand that I'm a Die-hard Conservative. But it came to me the other day that one possible reason for all of the mixed signals lately from the White House is this; Perhaps GWB and his advisors are going soft on Immigration and other topics in order to re-charge the conservative base? So he sides with Teddy the Hutt on Immigration, the conservative base screams bloody murder, and lo and behold, in comes a candidate, who is for strict emforcement of our borders, and completely locks up the Presidency for true conservatives.

It's just a gut feeling I've had about some of the choices coming out of the White House.

Discuss. Thanks.

It's a highly plausible scenario. The job of extremists candidates is to make the middle-of-the-road candidates of each party look moderate and sensible. After all, it is most likely that the majority of Americans are truly moderate, holding both liberal views on some issues and conservative views on other issues. This is a "winnowing" of ideas in the political arena, and it is one of the best features of the American system. However, my gripe is that some really good ideas never get past the gate because they often come from loudmouth crackpots, which usually has the effect of both the idea and the presenter being dismissed as absurd. On the subject of immigration, most Americans are not being heard, which is both a disappointment in our office-holders and a rallying point for extremist viewpoints. I would like all Americans to be heard before anyone opens their mouth with the word "Racist". Often, it is not racist, it is purely economic and cultural.
