OK, for the sake of argument let's say that FOX News is a Conservative-leaning News station, and every other news station is completely unbiased. Therefore, to a Democrat standpoint, FOX News does NOT cater to the audience who will be voting on them, correct?
So, participating in a debate on FOX News would be somewhat akin to debating with the enemy. So, why not use this as a training ground? If the ONLY reason they are not debating on FOX News is that it is right-leaning, do they think that, when they have to negotiate with a murderous dictator as President, he will not try to spin the issue his way? Do they think the whole world will ask them the "proper" questions?
And if the whole thing is really about that guys insult about Obama: Do they think our enemies around the globe will never insult whomever gets elected? Don’t they understand that, as President, they have to stand up to MUCH heavier criticism than this?
The ONLY reason that I can see them not wanting to debate on FOX News is that it will expose their lack of depth. If they stood strong on issues, ANYONE should be able to ask them a tough question and they should be able to answer it. At least that’s the President I want.
I want a President who can go on a debate sponsored by Al Jazeera and STILL stand firm on the issues.
Agreed?

It would be great to see candidates of both parties in forums that would allow you to assess their positions, plans, and personal qualities. This can not happen in a forum which is only a debate with the moderator. After watching Brit Hume in the Republican "debate" asking hypothetical questions that were meant to create both good and bad soundbites for the candidates, I think the Dems are right for choosing a different forum.

They will receive framed questions just like the Republicans did in their Fox News debate. If they were fair and balanced, they would ask fair and balanced questions.
The Democratic candidates know the questions they will face will be worded in a way that paints their positions or assumes right and wrong before they even answer- the EXACT same thing that happens to anyone of a differing view who is being interviewed on any Fox News program.
The Democratic candidates will have plenty of debates, and they surely can stand up to foreign criticism. Personally, I would like to see a Republican debate sponsored by Al Jazeera, wouldn't you?

Agreed, mostly. I would add that the democrats were handing the netroots types (moveon.org, etc.) some red meat. Hatred of FOX News is a unifying sentiment on the far left.
Conservatives are much more comfortable arguing policy with those who disagree with them than are liberals. I think that's one of the big sources of Fox hatred out there. The liberals had a monopooly on the airwaves prior to FOX and Limbaugh. Those two sources of oppostion alone are enough to anger the left, though the left still dominates the media.
People who are comfortable that their positions hold ujp to scrutiny and challenge don't get overly worried about tough questions. Liberal policy positions are crafted for emotional appeal and these appeals are usually used to distract from what will really result from the policy.

Here's one for you: Why did you ask this question without providing any proof that (a) FOX News is portraying Iran's President as an evil dictator, or (b) that Iran's President is NOT an evil dictator? Your opinion means nothing. Show us the proof.

It's politics. The far-left blogs are pushing hard for the Democratic candidates to skip the Fox debate. They represent only 10% of the vote but that's important in the primaries. I'd avoid it as well. There will be many more debates they can participate in before the primaries.

Sounds like the Dems want to control the forum just like the current administration does. George always speaks at screened gatherings of like-minded people.
While I think Fox News is anything but "fair and balanced" this did *not* stop Bill Clinton from going to an interview with Chris Wallace - and wiping that smirk off his face. It's one of the last times I've seen "spine" from the dems...

Democrats like to characterize Bush as an evil dictator, and have already shown how well they can 'stand up' to him. From voting the way he wanted to start the Iraq war, to giving him the funding for it without a time table, as requested, and everything in between.

Wrong...
Democrats have refused to debate on FOX News because it's propaganda. They don't report what's going on. They make up stuff to make this war and all the people who have died in it look justified. They actually make it sound like we're doing good over there. Well... we're not.
The fact that they support propaganda is the exact reason they won't debate there. They don't want to have to answer propaganda. They don't want to have to say "this war is justified". Because it's not.
You have it all wrong. Conservatives have it all wrong. And FOX News is just stirring it up.

You want a president who can answer tough questions? That's it?
I want a hell of a lot more than that.
And if you've ever noticed, FOX (and all news channels for that matter) are a completely inappropriate forum for airing one's opinion, because they don't let you have enough time to really talk and are only interested in sound bites. I want MORE than a sound bite from my future president.
And it's one thing to be insulted by other people, but to insult one of your OWN, and American, I think that's crass and unbecoming.
I hardly liken participating in a FOX news debate to combatting the enemy. That's a really sad comparison.
And I've never seen any debates on Al-Jazeera, they don't waste their time on such BS.

I think the reason why Obama backed out is he was pissed off at the way his upbrining was portrayed on one of the Fox News Channel shows (Cavuto maybe?) and asked for an apology, but didn't receive it.
So he refuses to do any interviews with Fox any longer.
Hillary is somewhat understandable considering the hatchet job that Wallace did on Bill.
The rest I cannot speak for.
