Get yourself a tow dolly. That way you can tow any front-wheel drive car without ruining the transmission, or having to mount an unsightly tow bar on your car. It also makes it a snap to change cars if you want. Other than that, just keep the weight of the car/dolly within the towing capacity of the RV.

If you pull a vehicle with an automatic, it must have the drive wheels off the ground or disconnected (by removing the driveshaft), unless it is a 4wd where you can put the transfer case in neutral.

If the drive wheels are on the ground and you simply put the automatic transmission in neutral, the transmission still turns inside and since the motor is not running and spinning the trans pump, there is no lubricant being circulated inside the transmission and the parts are wearing against one another.

In a 4wd system, the transfer case doesn't use a pump to lubricate the internal components, this is done through sloshing the lubricant on the gears by their spinning action, but the transfer case being in neutral totally disconnects the driveshaft from the transmission, therefore the tranmission doesn't spin.

You can flat tow a Suzuki Grand Vitara 4X4 in either automatic or manual transmission. The Grand Viatra is a very popular choice among RV enthusiasts b/c of the flat tow option.

You can also flat tow prior model year Suzuki XL7 if they are 4X4 (either A/T or M/T)

For 2007 you can flat tow the Suzuki SX4 (M/T only) or the Suzuki Aerio FWD (M/T only).

The Aerio is a sedan. The SX4 is an AWD hatch-back. The Grand Vitara is a rear-wheel drive SUV.

Prices range from around 15K for the Aerio and SX4 to up to 28K for a loaded Grand Vitara (but starting at 22K).

Suzuki makes a great product with flat towers in mind and offers an excellent warranty, all for as little cost as possible.

It's a highly recommended brad amongst RVers.

A Saturn can be towed in neutral without damage to the automatic transmission. It is the only car that I know of with an automatic that can be towed in such a fashion.

If you watch on the road, you will see a lot of Saturns being towed behind motor homes for this reason!!

You need a manual shift transmission vehicle so the transmission can be put in neutral or a 4x4 vehicle with a automatic and a manual shift transfer case which can be put in neutral.
