Your software is going to cost the same on a Mac or a PC, all you're going to need is the Adobe CS3 suite.
Unless you're going to a vocational school or community college for graphic design, you're going to find Macs in the department. You're going to find Macs in the real world. Whether these jokers think that Macs are not dominant in the Graphics industry or not - they are.
Cost for the hardware is going to be extremely similar, and after the Education discount and free iPod for back to school, the Mac will probably be a better deal. A good solid laptop to be used in graphics is going to cost you $2000, period. If you buy less, you'll get a piece of junk and have to buy another one in a year. Would you rather pay $1000 every year getting another crappy notebook, or pay $2000 upfront and get exactly what you need and have it last?
Go for the MacBook Pro, you will not regret it.

I pesonally have a PC laptop but i desire using Macs i have experience with all types of Macs and perfer them better than PCs but if u are going for the cheaper price i would go with a Mac to use since you are in graphic design, once you start using Macs they get easier to work on then Pcs and you dont have to worry about the lag time if you are running vista I would go with a Mac just for the graphic design, pcs are more for personal then buisness use.

extra advertising, a superior advertising group, elementary layout, homogeneity. laptop is genuinely any computing gadget no longer a mac, and of direction they're going to run the gamut in high quality/value/layout. subsequently the only factor that Macs somewhat have over each laptop is they are able to run Apple proprietary application. there is likewise a picture factor that i'm noticing with Macs. because of their branding and advertising Macs are pointed out as "cooler" than their laptop counterpart particularly subcultures. i'm because of the fact an incredible style of you positioned down 'virus loose' as between the main significant execs of a mac. That in spite of the undeniable fact that has to do with the Unix based working equipment run on the Mac extremely than the Mac itself. If laptop shoppers are so susceptible, they are able to additionally get an endemic loose working equipment in between the numerous Linux flavors.

Macs are better overall. Superior OS, build quality, and customer service. PCs are cheaper though. You get what you pay for. Don't forget that you can also run Windows on Macs now without any problem, so the only reason not to get a mac is money.

previous belief was mac's were better for graphics
not true any longer
pc
- more software
- easier to get software and less expensive
- more control over computer, hardware, repairing it etc.
- easier to get virus and spyware
- easier to buy upgrades and more locations to get the system repaired if need be
mac
easier to use
- less control of what you can do ( software changes, upgrades, etc)
- less prone to virus and spyware
- software is more expensive, less variety
- harder to buy upgrades and harder to get repaired
