I have seen this over and over on here, people are so quick to judge someone else, over a simple response. Hardly enough to get a full idea of anothers knowledge or opinions. Also, to attack the asker for "asking" a question. Obviously the questions asked are for people to learn by reading the opinions and knowledge of others. Can we not just share what we know and let the asker learn and research from our responses without calling people stupid, ignorant etc. etc.?

1st, thank you for your nice, compassionate answer. Right back at you!
2. I posted in this in "horses" as this is the section I'm referring too.
3rd. I agree about the compassionate association with horses.
4. I am not talking about responding to incorrect advice... but there is a better to have conflicting advice that to call some names! Are we bad behaved children? That is my point in this question..... opinions, debates on a subject etc are what its about, I'm not saying don't answer or provide a better way. I'm just talking about the flat out rude behavior, especially when a ligitimate question is asked (not for those questions that are just looking for an idiotic response back) but people actually using this thing to ask real questions that deserve real answers. My point for asking is hopefully to have people try to be a little nicer and know that there is more than 1 correct way to do things..... we don't have to be attack dogs.

LOL, people still don't get the point. YES, I agree people need "there eyes opened" but let me ask this. Were you born with all the answers or did you have people to learn from?????? Still, on the subject that made me post this. There was absolutely NO reason for people to answer that girl the way they did and by no means do we have to have name calling!

I agree with you full heartedly! As horse people, we all know that other horse people think they know everything about horses! Even horseshoers criticize each others’ work and so do Equine Veterinarians and Trainers etc. Horses are different, Yahoo! Answers is not the one stop equine solution. That is why we have Equine Professionals.
I think people who judge others on Yahoo! Answers are those who take the advice they read too seriously. As horse owners, responsible horse owners that is, it is up to us to educate ourselves and learn as you stated in your question about our horses. No one and I say that again, No one, knows everything there is to know about horses. Old timers who have been around horses for 60-70 years will tell you that themselves. That’s why there is always someone else to contact in the horse world and why there are so many professions available in the Equine Industry. Vets, Trainers, Horseshoers, Massage Therapists, etc.. Equine knowledge is infinite. Veterinarians don't know everything about training, Trainers don't know everything about veterinary treatment, horseshoers don't know everything about riding and riders don't know everything about horseshoeing.. Yahoo! Answers is a place where people share their ideas and opinions, and its also a place where there are riders of different types of riding (dressage v barrel racing- rodeo cowboy v ranch cowboy), so the information being offered is of course going to be different.
Since horses are so different as well, it can be said that the people who are involved with them are going to be different so who is one person to judge another for giving one person advice when the advice was being sought in the first place. There is more than one way to handle equine issues, every vet works differently and every trainer, rider etc. works differently. As intelligent horse owners and enthusiasts it is up to us to respect that we are not the sole answer holders when it comes to horses and there are other ways and ideas out there. In order to become wise in our horse knowledge, we have to be willing to listen to others opinions and ideas and be willing not to automatically criticize just because something is different. Also without questions, we have no answers! Yahoo! Answers is named Yahoo! Answers for a reason.

It's done because often we people that have been around horses for a long time forget how difficult it was starting out. We've developed our patience around the horses and forgotten about the people involved. We take our knowledge for granted and some guard it with their lives thinking that anyone that doesn't have this knowledge is stupid or ignorant, but will not share it to help another person keep from making the same mistakes that we made along the way. Or some people reason is that they've fixed their share of problems that new owners have created and that's make them bitter where new people are concerned. Sometimes we have to remember to let go and learn. We can all learn from one another. The only stupid or ignorant questions where horses are concerned is the question that you didn't ask.

I haven't used Yahoo Answers for very long, but I gain knowledge from answers to questions in different areas. I don't think any question asked is "stupid" it's nice to see all the different responses and caring people that take the time to answer. If people need to be rude and disagree in a rude and distasteful manner then why be on Yahoo Answers?? I learned everything I know about horses from being around knowledgeable people in the horse industry, when I got my first horse 22 years ago alot of people probably would of thought me stupid for owning a horse. It would have been nice to have a place like this to ask questions. Just last night I asked a question in dogs about a puppy that was about to pass away and I couldn't get ahold of a vet at 11pm and I thought to ask here-the knowledge was and answers for the most part were so helpful to me in keeping him alive last night. There shouldn't be any rudeness and name calling if you aren't happy and don't like the questions then don't waste your time answering them!! Sharing knowledge and helpful advice is an awesome thing to be able to do on this site. Why be mean even if horse owners are emotional on this subject it doesn't give any person a right to be down right rude. Thanks for asking this question we can debate without being worse than a raging wild animal!!

I think everyone could be a bit nicer, myself included. BUT when my opinion does not match with what the asker wanted to hear, I also do not like getting flamed in a posting or by email for not agreeing with them. Of course that makes me mad and I am guilty of giving back what I get. And nothing gets accomplished but a bunch of childish behavior. Instead of finding out why the person has the opinion they do, we are quick to condemn because they do. If you ask a question, then you should be prepared to get all kinds of advice. And what we all should stick to is answering questions to our best ability and not get into name calling as to who is right or wrong in answers. Even if you do not agree with what another person is saying. I think that if we put our egos aside (it is not like we get paid to answer questions), we can all learn something from each other, or even just have a good laugh over something. Thanks for bringing this up and hopefully everyone will be able to improve from it. I will certainly try on my part.

I can answer why people are so judgemental on what others answers are..Because horse people are very compassionate about there horses..i beleive more so than any other animal lover . also one wrong answer in can completely devastate a horses training....for example say someone asks what they should do because there horse throws his head.....and one person answers that the thing to do would be to snatch the reins and the pain associated with throwing his head would make him stop..Wrong! The reason hed be popping is head (all medical ruled out) would most likely be because the rider was (in his mouth ) to begin with so in turn by snatching it would cause him to pop his head even moreand possibly eventually hit his rider in the face and in turn be more difficult to fix. This kinda answer would enrage a person that knows the right answer because (being very compassionate about what they do) it would cause more problems for the person and the animal in questioning...get it?

I think part of the reason is that there are deeper issues a novice may not have considered, and some are highly emotional issues that people are very passionate about. Ask about breeding, and I'm likely to answer within the context of being a responsible breeder because of over population.
And, sometimes people ask rhetorical questions just to stimulate discourse and conversation. If someone doesn't like rhetorical questions, they should ignore them.

i recently asked a question:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtL4l1MQywfLVGYwu_CkGh3sy6IX?qid=20070530094148AAntZtj
and as you can see from the responses, people were very quick to judge my knoweledge with out even knowing me. Most of them didn't even answer my question they just criticised. And not trying to be rude, and thoguth its not the best way to compare, but loko at the present of best answers. She was criticising me when I have a much higher percent in best answers. Now that is a questionable resource, but evident.
Now the horse world is a very judgemental one. Of course everyone wants to be the best and have the best horse but there are SOOO many ways to judge a horse and rider that you couldn't possibly know one's ability off of one opinion or method.
best wishes!

I think the biggest problem is when people ask questions that make you mad. My dog has been vomiting blood for two days and now she wont move. This is the kind of question the boils my bloos and in this situation I will respond correctly and maby a little to mad. But when peole like me get on here to answer questions and see this kind of thing day after day after day it starts to get under your skin and you just loose it. But when people ask a simple question and get the nasty answers back it might make them think we are just a groop of mean people with nothing better to do with our day than make other feel bad for simply wanting to know and that is not right. I agree we all need to take a chill pill on ocation but for the most I belive it is the question asked that provokes the answers you get back.

I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU MEAN! Horseback riding topics are sometimes so controversial, there are many many ways of training and just because someone doesn't train the same way you do doesn't mean they are inexperienced and you are right on with the respononses to horse/fashion help 911's question-- I happen to know her very well and she is actually very experienced... If you are gonna go on yahoo looking for answers and looking to answer some questions you are just gonna have to realize that you will get all different sorts of opinions-- duh everyone isn't gonna think the same thing!! (not you personally, but 'you' in general)

I know how it feels. One of my questions received two answers that were completely out of left field, so to speak. And people do ask some question just to spark a debate (especially in the NASCAR section...) Most people are asking question because they would like some honest answers. And there are people who will answer them with completely clueless/rude/unneeded answers just to get points. I wish that those people would grow up.
