I want to kill the ants that have invaded my apartment and am not sure the natural remedies will work--and I am impatient. Will a RAID ant disc placed out of reach of the cat (as in, under the fridge), be a danger to him? Any other ways of getting rid of ants?

You can use the ant traps, just put them OUT OF REACH of your kitty. I have had to do that before. Get the kind that stick to the floor and put them under the sink, under the fridge, etc. If the kitty doesn't get into them, they won't get sick.

Use Terro gel. It works great and is pretty safe. It is a bait that is made up of a sugar gel that has borax as the active ingredient. Ants carry it back to the colony, then the other ants, including the queen, eat it. It kills the ants by sucking all the water out of their bodies, but it would not have that effect on a mammal. It has eliminated indoor ant problems in my home. First, find where the ant trails are. Then, put a few drops of the terro bait on one of the pieces of cardboard that it comes with in an out of the way place where there are ant trails. Then, you will see more ants than ever as the colony sends more ants to get this great "food" source. Replenish the terro as it runs out, and in a about a week no more ants will come around. Beware of the ingredients in other products-I saw an ant bait one time that had arsenic in it!

Here's how I deal with it. First only feed the cat as much as it will eat in 20 minutes and then pick up the dishes. Your cat will get the program within a few days and eat up. This is actually healhtier for your cat and prevents obesity. I feed twice a day. Then I spray the actual ant trails with Windex to kill them and only use ant killer spray at the actual entry points into my home. I make sure windows are open, and my pets are far away when I do the spraying and I don't let them back into the room until the spray is completely dry. This way I use very little toxic spray. I wipe up the Windex before the animals come back into the room too.

I would not put any poison around my cat. I've heard the ants can get away if you leave sliced lemons around. But what really worked when I had the problem, was to block the opening where they were coming through from with silicone.

no because if the cat just happens to drink it or breathe in the ant killer it could get really sick or even die because thats what happened to my cat.
