Do colleges have a system to know whether or not you have attended somewhere else and force you to show your transcript?

no, the admissions people don't really have any system to check but financial aid will know for sure if you have ever received any type of financial aid at another school. I am gonna assume you didn't do so well at the previous school and that is why you don't want to claim it. Well, my sister had the same problem so she went and talked to the admissions people (they really do want to help you) and they told her that she could do a one time fresh start where they would completely disregard her previous college experience and grades. That doesn't make it go away everywhere else but for this particular school, it would be like it never happened. I would be honest because if they find out that you lied you will get kicked out and may not be able to get into another good school after that.

You are supposed to list all colleges you've attended and forward transcripts, yes. It gets to be quite a pain when you've attended several different schools!

If it is within the same community college system, then yes, it would show up. But if it is a university, tech school, or independent college, then it won't show up.
However, I would think you would want to transfer credits in order not to have to take the same things over again. But that is up to you !

Not necessarily as they will get the transcripts from the other school.

no, it would just hurt you not to give your transcripts unless you have straight F's.
