well if she had not stood up for herself ,some ppl might still be riding in the back of the bus . because bus company was losing money by the boy cott . she was the right woman cause she had the gumption to stand up for herself . the price she paid for her role was being put in jail ,constantly harassed by white ppl . she had to live rough for a while and I am so glad that bill clinton honored her .

Watch the history channel. This bus company made their money from the black folks who were taking the bus to their jobs from "way down in the ghetto" to the uptown rich white homes to go to work. When Ms. Parks refused to give up her seat and was arrested, the buses majority of riders (blacks) boycotted. They began getting up earlier to walk to work. Jeez, there was even a movie about this too...the boycott affexted the change in the same way that anyone gets change - if thats where the money is, businesses will give in. Money os far more powerful than hatred or anything else, really. Why was she the right woman at the right time? I dunno...theres never any reason for timing. Why did WW2 happen when it did? Why did the WTC get bombed when it did? Why were you born when you were? It just happens. I beieve in God and that He has a plan for everything and only He knows when the timing is right for anything. I think she was the mother of the civil rights movement because she was the only one who finally got tired of being pushed around and stood up for herself, fear or no fear. Every human being has their limits to how much of anything they will take - and she finally had enough. Its as simple as that. Bullies will only push you as far as you let them.

I think I heard her say, that she had just gotten off from a shift and she was tired, she didn't want to give up her seat for anyone. She was arrested because of it, which of course sparked the bus boycott which caused the buses to lose lots of money, when people start losing money, things change.
