So I bought a new laptop, and get it back to my apt. It automatically picks up wireless networks. Someone in my apt complex has wireless internet and I can connect to their network. Can they see that I'm connected to their network?

Thanks everyone. I'm new to wireless. To those saying it's wrong, I wasn't asking it from a moral standpoint. I was just wanting to know. There are two networks I pick up; one is secure and another isn't. It's not my fault the other didn't secure their network. But thanks everyone.

They can if they know where to look.
The router will show who is on the network.
CAUTION - all pcs on this network can see each other and contents in network shared drive folders can be downloaded, edited or removed so you have a security risk.

YES, but only if they are looking for you by logging into the wireless router that you are connecting too or buy running software, but thats unlikely when the connection is open. If they left the connection open they probally are okay with you using it.

Not unless they are a real geek - They would have to be monitoring the activity on there wireless router. Most people don't know how to do this.

Yes, and you can get jail time for it too.
Don't do it. That's like stealing your car. and not to talk about the damage that can be done by accessing their computer.
If you were a nice guy you would let them know that their wireless internet is not secure. I would do it in heart beat.

I doubt they would be logged into their router or would have an intruder detection system. If pages are upside down and blurry then they might have done to mess around with people that leech off their internet.

Yes they can see if they are smart enough to look. Most routers will show the DNS entry for the system. They would be able to see your ip address and computer name.

It is possible for them to see that your wireless adapter is associated with their wireless router/access point.
It's probably not possible for them to ascertain WHERE it is coming from, only that it's happening.
If I saw that, I would password-protect my access point/router to keep others from using it.

If they are monitoring their network usage then yes, they will be able to see activity...but they will not be able to see WHO is connected.

Heres a thought, If they don't know how to lock down there internet, than they probably don't know how to detect anyone using it. However, it is illegal.
