You can't say no one eats the heel, because I do, and I know alot of other people who do.
Besides, that as the loaf is sliced by the machine, not by hand, it is then packaged as a whole unit, and also it helps prevent the bread from drying out.

hmm... you're making quite an assumption there. "no one eats the heel" huh... how in the heck do you know that?
I'm willing to bet there are millions of people who have no problem with eating that part and most of them actually enjoy it. Everybody at my house has no problem with eating it.
The other points are also valid: it keeps the inside fresh, otherwise the inside would dry up.
Your comment about sending it to homeless shelters is extremely rude. Those homeless people are people just like you and they deserve the best you have, not to be treated like trash. Some of them are trash, but many of them are bright, intelligent people who have made mistakes or fallen on hard times. Go visit a shelter. It might do you some good.
You sound like a spoiled ditz to me.

Who says nobody eats the "heels" of the loaf of bread. IMHO, they package the heels because it keeps the bread in between fresh longer.

LOL, my cousin freaks out if you eat the "heels" before you finish the loaf of bread. She says the "heels" are to be eaten last.

Well, I guess we all have our little quirks!

It would take more time and money to make sure the heels didn't get packaged. I know my mom feeds them to the birds. I throw them out.

I love those parts! :-) Those are the only part of the bread loaves that I eat. If you don't like 'em, send them to me!
