There are tons of great dance music artists all over the world. Most people who arent dance music fans dont realize how many different genres there are within dance music, and even dance music fans themselves tend to be divided in their preferences.
For example when I first started listening to "techno" about seven years ago, it was more your catchy mainstream trance vocal tunes, but I really didnt get into it until I first heard Drum & Bass which I loved so much I bought a pair of tables and spent mucho dinero on DnB records. Over time my tastes have expanded to all but a few genres of dance. I listen to breaks and progressive house now as much as dnb...chill, happy hardcore and hardhouse I dont care for.
Honestly though, from my experience techno music tends to be an aquired taste, the more you understand the music and the depth within a quality tune or the emotional trip of a great dj mix set, the more you appreciate the music and get more attached to it.
That said, my advice is to surf the net for tracks to listen to, checkout online record stores, download mixes, etc. and sample out music from the many different genres in dance and see if anything fits your tastes. If you have Sirius, there are a couple good electronic music stations there. Thedjlist.com lists the most popular artists worldwide. Some of my favorites are LTJ Bukem, DJ Dara, DJ DB, Micky Finn, Technical Itch, Sharaz, Rick West, DJ Icey, Hernan Cattaneo, Deep Dish, DJ Trashy, DJ X, and Sasha & Digweed....to name a few.

Techno (and dance music in general) only stops being complete garbage if you indulge in some of the more illegal offerings available in your local nightclub.
