China is absolutely the worst polluting country in the world and only look to get worse. The communist evironmental policies they have in place are barely a shadow of all western industrialized nations including (shocker) the U.S. India is moving a little slower than China but is experiancing the same problem. Should more effort be put into addressing the real pollution that China and India (NOx and SOx gasses just to start) are generating instead of worrying about one of the most benign gases ever discovered (CO2)?

No it does not matter. Why should the US try to reduce our emission when other countries which are expected to surpass our emission in 2010 and exempt? The restriction on the US in the Kyoto protocol are tougher than those on any other country. It would be ridiculous for the US to agree to such a treaty.

As china and india are developing countries they do not have to stop pollution to the same degree that developed western countries do. The U.S government still hasnt signed the kyoto agreement even tho it is one of the, if not the biggest, polluters in the world. Maybe in the US was seen to do more they could influence other counties to do the same.

Sorry to disappoint you but on the list of 'The Top 10 Worst Polluted Places' only number 6 is China
(http://environment.about.com/od/pollution/a/top_10_polluted.htm).

And just thought you may want to know but China has spend a lot of money on developing renewable energy sources and we are starting to have more control over the market to prevent permanent damage to the Earth's ecology. Going green is one of the top Chinese government priority. China also pouring heavy money on Solar power, Wind Power, Tidal Power, Nuclear power, Biofuel.
