A huge truck may arrive at a weak bridge, a steep hill, a railroad crossing or a similar place where it's huge wieght could cause problems. Their weight must be taken into account to see if it is safe to continue.
MGw or maximum Gross Wieght is the wieght of the whole thing-tractor unit,trailer unit, load, fuel, even the driver and his sandwiches!
Axle wieght depends on how many axles are there, that is the set of wheels.TRhe more the axles and wheels, the better the weight is spread over a large area.
Payload wieght is the wieght of just the load, without the truck...Phew!

The highways are engineered to handle a maximum amount of weight; if trucks are carrying loads over that amount the highways deteriorate faster.
Incidentally, there are weight load maximums for some city streets; about 15 years ago Seattle wanted to know why sections of their re-engineered downtown streets were not holding up to the traffic. It turns out that all the city owned buses were over-weight!

they do this to check and see if there over loaded there only supposed to carry a certain amount of weight,and sometimes they do get over loaded,if they catch them,they usually ticket the company that owns the truck ,or the driver,good luck hope this helps.

To check for overloading of trailers,trailers are rated for a certain amount of weight,some freight companies try to put to much in them,making it unsafe for the driver and other people on the road.

to make sure, their load isnt too heavy and exceding the limit. if it does, they will get a ticket and they will have to pay a large amount of money.
