I am talking *only* about the "follow us home" argument. I know there are issues about giving terrorists a safe haven to organize in Iraq, but that is a different and separate agrument.

Will it be easier for a terrorist to sneak into the USA *after* our troops come home than it will be *before* our troops come home? Do terrorists not know where the USA is, and will have to "follow us home" to find out?

What is this magic bullet of having troops in Iraq that prevents terrorists from coming to the USA? I just don't get that reasoning.

And you can't just say it hasn't happened so it must be working. First, it's not for lack of trying - there have been at least a few failed attempts. Second, we don't know what the terrorists timetables are - remember it was 7 years between the first and second WTC attacks, and we've only been in Iraq for a little over 4 years. Third, the old adage still holds true: Absence of Evidence is not Evidence of Absence.

I'm not sure that many of these people are reading your question correctly...

Yes, it is ridiculous to think that by us being there, that it will keep us safer here.
These Muslim radicals would LOVE to strike us here at home more so than there, as it is the troops job to fight them. It would hurt us more to strike here at home, where civilians would be hit, and more outrage would be felt by the masses. Bring more people apt to fight the radicals home=less safety....I don't follow. Good question.
I think that it is just another fear tactic Bush uses to do his will without completely alienating his demographic.
I.E. propaganda

In a round about way: The question isn't "Who am I"? The question is: "What am I". And as long as you try to answer "who am I", you are always going to come up with an answer different from the real one, which is: You are the Presence of God expressed, or the presence of God expressing Himself. You are a function, not a thing. You are a movement, not an object. You are, you could say, the place where God shines through. You see? that's a what not a who.

Are you kidding me? We have had several terrorist plots stopped in this country. For example, on December 30, 2000 we stopped a guy from blowing up LAX Airport. Caught him at the boarder.

The Virginia Tech shooting. The shooter had references to islam on his arms, his mail to CBS, and the Al Queda video that surfaced yesterday referenced VT as if they sponsored it.

We had the Ft. Dixon attack foiled by the guy who worked at the photo lab.

Our borders to the south and north leak like the Titantic, so it would be very easy for a terrorist to sneak into this country and plan an attack in 7 months or in 7 years. The Ft. Dixon shooters owned a pizza parlor in New Jersey and were using that as a front for their plan. Some came here as part of a refugee plan when they were kids and were naturalized citizens.

So if you are naieve enough to think that a terrorist in Iraq cannot make his way to Europe and catch a flight to Mexico and sneak in this country and execute a terrorist plot or suicide bombing, you are surely looking at things through your rose colored glasses. Only a fool thinks like that.

FYI - Yahoo had a story last week that about 25% of the muslim males living in the USA support suicide bombings.

Absolutely not.

It can't be any easier than it is now that's an impossibility.

I don't get that either, close the borders completely and stop all entry of people from the middle east, until they get their $hit together and start acting like decent human being's, if that's at all possible.

All we can do is stay vigilant, like we are now.

Yes it makes sense...currently they are engaged with fighting us in the Middle East. Their resources are limited and it makes it much more difficult to plot out anything major while already engaged. The incidents of large scale Attacks are down worldwide not just in America. They are being caught trying smaller attacks because like I said, limited resources while currently engaged. Should we leave the Middle East at this time the terrorists would have ample opportunity to back up and regroup...they have promised the next attack will make 911 look like child's play.

Absolutely. Read what the Islamic fundamentalists write. They are antithetically opposed to liberal democracy. Their immediate goal is to consolidate control of the Islamic homeland and then to expand that out. Because we support secular governments in Muslim lands, the US will always be a target of these fundamentalists. We will be fighting them for generations. We can fight them where they live or they will bring the fight here. I'm not necessarily saying that the war in Iraq is going well or that it's a good thing, but you have to view it as just one battle in a larger war. We can't just leave now and put Saddam back in and have status quo ante bellum. We have to ensure that liberal democracy prevails. This may be a tougher nut to crack than communism was, since fundamentalist Islam can thrive without state sponsorship.

The argument is that if we pull out of Iraq, the terrorist we are currently fighting there, will no longer have anyone to fight in Iraq. Since their goal in life is to become a martyr for their God, they will have to leave Iraq to fight the great Satan. They know that they can kill the most Americans in the US so they will come here to kill us.

It didn't make sense to me until I read the terrorists were buying huge spools of thread to tie to the back of our aircraft carriers once we leave. We need to invest in a thread -deterrent system, such as scissors, to halt the threat.
