CD-Rs can only be written to once and CD-RWs can be written to multiple times. The CD-Rs that won't work in your computer are either no good or are incompatible.

CDR are a burn once CD unless you make it a multi session once the session has been closed you will not be able to write to it again, most software is configure to automatically close a session when burnt, but if you go in the option you can make a multi session CDR you will be able to write untill the CDR is full with 700MB just keep in mind that each session will take abot 20 to 30 extra m of space.
A CDRW is a rewritable CDR you will have the option to erase the disk and write over and over again.

CDR stands for CD recordable. This means it is a recordable disc but can only record once to the disc. CDRW stands for CD Rewritable. Meaning you cna write to the disc multiple times in sessions or clean wipes and rewrites. If you have an older drive it may not support some of the new faster Discs out there. See what the speed on the disc is and what the maximimu speed on your drive is. Also some drives dont like certain cheaper brands of discs. Try a more common name brand or little more costly brand of discs

CD-R is CD Recordable. you can only record onto the disc once and then the disc is done. they are one-time use. CD-RW is CD Rewritable. You can record to RW discs multiple times. for instance, you can burn some files to the disc at one point and put the disc in at another time and add more files to the disc until it's full. you can even erase RW discs and use them again as a blank CD. RW discs are better to use, in my opinion, because you can re-use them. They are a little more expensive and don't have as fast of a write speed as a CD-R, but they are better all-around to use. Your problem with certain CD-Rs not working in your computer is probably that your system is not compatible with certain brands of CD-Rs.

You have to use multilayer CDR for that purpose. They are double layer with 8GB size. I tried to find software myself, but found better solution by using multilayer cdr's.

when you buy CD-R's in the store look at the front of the package and they will tell you what can be recorded on the IE: data or music or both.
also the difference between cd-r and cd-rw is you can erase RW and record over it again and cd-r is permanent.
Also a cd-rw will record music but won't play in all cd players whereas a cd-r will.

CD-RWs are rewritable (you can erase them).

To get other brands and speeds of CDs to work, you may have to update the firmware on your CD Writer. You need to go to the manufacturer's website and download the firmware update.
