I know the moon has an affect on women (and water) but I've heard that more women go into labour on or around a full moon - or at least their waters break and labour has to be induced (only full term women I think). Does anyone know if thats true? I think I'm just clinging to straws here but I'm due tomorro and theres a full moon tonight so I guess I'm just hoping I wont go too far overdue.

I have actually done quite a bit of research on this subject. WIth my son (now 5) I discovered that I conceived him in the same moon phase under which I was born. He was also born under the same moon phase in which he was conceived (which was 3 days past my due date). So I started doing research on my current pregnancy and we conceived in the same moon phase as I was born and my son was born. Coincidence? I'm not sure but I do find it very interesting. I also read that a full moon does affect women who are full term and could go make them go into labor. I also read that for centuries women used the moon to guide them as to when they would start their periods and when they would be most fertile. Long answer short is that I would research what phase of the moon you conceived under to see if that gives you any answers.

I thought that one had been thoroughly debunked by now...?

"But as mysterious and alluring as the link between full moons and births may sound, scientific studies suggest that it is more romance than reality.

Over the years, more than a dozen different studies in several countries have looked for a connection, and almost all have found none.

One of the most recent, published last year in The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, examined about 564,000 births across 62 lunar cycles in North Carolina between 1997 and 2001.

The lunar cycle, the study found, had no predictable influence on deliveries or birth complications at all.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Studies show that workloads in maternity wards are not affected by the full moon."

"Conclusion: Although there exists a popular belief that the phase of the lunar cycle and weather conditions affect birth rate, no such evidence was found in this study."

I worked at a hotel when i was pregnant with my 2nd boy, and i had a man who was a regular tell me that i was going to have my son on a full moon. Just the way the gravity pulls and things like that. I really didn't believe him, but guess what.. i did have him on a full moon. My water didnt break but i def went into labor!! I dont know all the facts about it but he was pretty accurate. I had him on the exact day he said i would. Good Luck!!!

I have four kids. They were all born on the quarter moon, not the full moon. Actually, I think the weather affects you more than the moon. Just before a low pressure area came, I would have more braxton hicks; and later before another low pressure front came, I went into labor.

I was hoping for the same moon thing with my son. However, it didn't work out for me. I was induced two days after my due date. I wouldn't put all of your eggs in that basket for sure. I think it's a old wives tale. Sorry and good luck! :)

I know that when I worked in the maternity ward we would get more women in labor during the full moon-why we didnt know. However it didnt work for me and I had my child in the waxing moon!

For whatever reason we tend to see more women laboring during the full moon than any other time...we have no explanation for this other than...coincidence? Just seems to happen

Why don't you just wait until tonight to find out instead of stressing over it. I think superstition can cause a lot of undue stress that can be resolved if you just wait and be excited when it does happen. GODD LUCK
