It seems that everybody thinks teen moms are just wh***es with no morals. I don't agree. Could somebody explain to me why this is.

I was a teen mam. I don't think that people think that their whores. I think they look at you with doubt as it's hard to bring up a child no matter how old you are and they possibly doubt your ability to cope. They wonder how you got in that "state" and stereotype you as "the girl they were in school with that slept around" as they can't relate themselves.

I've never been treated like a whore but my abilities to cope have been questioned on many occasions. And I have been put into that "catogary". It's strange, you'd have think that in this day of age, people would be a little more understanding,

I have met many teenage mother's who have raised their children as well or if not better than most. I don't agree that teenage pregnancy is right, but I do think that it's time to change our attitude towards it and accept that these things happen. xxx

If society was against teen parenthood, there certainly would not be special services and special schools for teen mothers.
I think society as a whole would rather not have bunches and bunches of teen mothers walking around because there are many things that a teenager lacks. Teens very often lack the maturity to take care of an infant. Many times, they do not finish school and lack the education in order to get a good job to provide for the little one. They also do not have husbands to help in rearing the child. There are many factors that keep a teenager from being an ideal mom. I would venture to say that society DOES care about them and wants them to succeed....that is why there are many social services to assist them.

It's society that has changed, not people or nature. Young people were "men" and "women" at the age of thirteen, and often betrothed at eleven. People today have forgotten all sense of nature and historical perspective. Remember, Romeo and Juliet are in their early teens, and at every bar mitzvah the young celebrant announces, "Today I am a man." Icons of children looked like little men and women because that's just what children were. "Childhood" itself is a new, post-Freudian concept. Beofre that, children worked in the fields, in the mines, in the house. Men went to war in their teens.

But society has changed. We live longer lives now and generally do not procreate until our twenties. Education has changed as well: college lasts until you are somewhere around 21, which is now also the legal age to drink alcohol (an "adult" behavior).

There is a delicate balance here. Because society has changed, norms and mores have changed with it. And in general, below 18 is too young these days to have a child because one's education has not been finished and good job prospects have not been reached. Also drugs and other issues are prevalent today that were not prevalent long ago. One wonders if a boy in his early teens could possibly have the strength to stay with and support a family. On the other hand, there's nothing unnatural about having a child at a younger age, and one's energy level for a child is much higher.

I don't know anyone who feels this way just because someone is a teen mom. I feel that away about all bad moms, regardless of age.. You know the women who have children they never look at and could care less about. Someone needs to smack them. But being a teen mom is fine as long as you are a MOM, not just someone who gave birth. ANd yes there is a huge difference.

No! No! You are wrong! Society is worried over a lot of "teen" mothers with no husbands/male parenthood. In teens, a lot of girls commit silly mistakes to become mothers. The body, at this time, will not be prepared for the baby and psychologically they are depressed if it resulted out of an immature relationship. These babies are insecure and grow insecure. Is it not the right of the society to brood over this matter?

Because they'll leave their kids with their mom's so they can go out partying some more. And the adults are scared that the teen mom will rinse and repeat and have another baby soon enough. Above all this, there's the possibility that their education will be halted or postponed, etc. Then there's the money aspect. Some of the welfare money is paid by citizens.

edit: You can look down on this answer all you like, but the fact of the matter is, that this answer is the most simplest down to earth, 'street' answer there is. Now if you want sociology type answers, look below mine, but most of those answers belong to educated people, and educated people aren't the ones that are calling teen moms whores. Think about it.

not everybody thinks that.......the thing is that you will be a better mom than later than earlier based on financial situations and education level...plus you are only young once and to have a child during that period will literally f*ck you up cuz then there's the choice do i still go out and act like a teenager(a be a sh*tty mom) or give up everything and be the best damn mom in this world...........plus waiting ensures a better famaily life for shorty cuz then it's more likely you are married and daddy will be there for you and the child making the child better in many levels.

only sex and parenthood at early age is not adviseable, at there are somany thing in world to do for your growing. ok, if any teen had becomes mom out of curiocity or by mistake, it should be accepted by society, and divert teen mom for further activities which may required to grow up in best of her future.
