Yeah I believe you can learn to drive within a year. The tests are kinda easy. The written test is basically common sense just study and youll be fine and as for the driving part, when I was about to take it, I told the instructor that I was nervous and she just asked me Do you know how to drive and I said yes and she said well then youll pass. If it helps I hadnt even been drivng a whole year when I took the test and I passed with a hundred.

The driving test pass certificate is valid for 2 years (plenty of time to sort out a full licence). Once the 2 years are up the the pass certificate is no longer valid so the driving test has to be retaken. So your friend is driving illegally, his insurance company would not pay out if there was a accident and also he will have to take his test again.

I failed my theory 3 times passed on the 4th, failed my practical 4 times passed on the 5th!!!!!!
I started taking lessons 10th October 2005 and passed everything by 23rd October 2006!!!
I know people that have had 14 hours of lessons and took their test and passed first time. I'm sure it took me longer than most people to pass, i was very nervous and also on my tests lack of concentration played a big part.
Stay positive, Like i said it took me longer than most people.
Good luck, it will change your life, its the best thing i ever did!!! And if you fail, put in for your next test straight away, never give up!!!!!

When i started i got told with having one lesson a week it would take a year to pass. But two a week shortens the length of time until you can pass.
