main problems are:

*- you need to reinstall the drives for your sound card
*- you need to make sure you have the speakers plugged into the correct socket (normally the green one)
*- some sound cards allow you to swap the socket's functionality (i.e. turn your microphone socket into the speaker socket) it may be possible you've changed this setting earlier and not changed it back
*- the speakers are borked (plug them into something else to check it)

Well it may sound obvious but make sure your speakers are plugged in correctly, and just for good measure you may want to unplug them and plug them in again. Then make sure your sound is not muted. Like I said, I know those sound obvious but a huge percentage of hardware problems are simple errors. Then check the more technical stuff like drivers and the sound card.

You might havt installed the sound card drivers, the sound card may be disabled, you might not have pluged in the speakers into the sound card or into the wrong socket.

You sound drivers may be corrupted.

The new operating system might not support your sound card without drivers.

Do you have all the cables plugged in, and the audio driver installed, or maybe you have your volume down or mute.

You need to install your sound card driver...go to your sound card manufacturer's website to download it.
