I have a HP laptop, & it has a 100GB HD, but I have only my Recovery Partition (D:) & the Windows Partition (C:) .
I tried using Partition Magic so as to create a new partition but it doesn't allow me to take space from the C: partition, & the D: (Recovery Partition) has no space. (Note that I don't want to change anything in the Recovery Partition.)
So, I was wondering maybe there is another way to re-partition or there might be some security restrictions I can disable so that I can create a partition from the free space on the C: partition.
So, I hope anyone knows how to do this without formatting.
Thanks in advance.

have you tried the vista command "diskpart"
try resizing the partition rather than creating a new one.
then once you resize you may be able to maje a new one?

You can do it using Partition Magic. If your not aware of how to use it get someone who has used it before. Because you can risk loosing your data.

But i am sure you can do what you want using Partition magic.

Still need help get back to me with some more details and i will try to help you out

download partition magic. It will allow you to adjust your partitions without reformatting. NOTE: Anytime you change a partition you are at risk of losing everything so make sure you have a backup.

That is also their disclaimer. I have used their product over 200 times and never lost anything.

Copy the data off of the D drive and use a program like partition magic or paragon partition manager to delete the D partition and resize the C partition to fill the drive.

either you have a really old version of Partition Magic or your missing something (or maybe not all options are installed). I use it quite often to do just you're describing and am able to allocate from existing partitions.

Try using GParted, burn the image to a CD and boot to it. It's easy to use and has many good options:
