If all else fails, maybe a self-help chemistry book (Chemistry for Dummies) would be an easier reading than your text book (if its super boring)

ask the teacher after class for another explanation, or have a tutor, and you can devote most of your time reading it a couple of times slowly to make sense of each sentence and see it as a whole
