I need to evaluate the epression f(x) = 3x + 20 over x ,for x = 4, can anyone help with this? I keep coming up with 17, but the choices I have to chose from are
5, -2, 8, or 32. I think it may be 8 but I am unsure thanks for your help

f(x) = (3x + 20)/x
f(4) = (3*4 + 20) / 4
f(4) = (12 + 20) / 4
f(4) = 32/4
f(4) = 8
you're right

Note: you need to put more parentheses in your expressions for clarity.
That equation can be interpreted the way I wrote it above, or as:

f(x) = 3x + 20/x

They're very different, that's why I got 17 before

f(x)=3x+20 = 3*4+20 = 12+20 =32

If you mean

f(x) = 3x + 20/x,

then the solution is f(4) = 3*4 + 20/4 = 12 + 5 = 17, but if you mean

f(x) = (3x + 20)/x

then (in the same way) solution is 8. I think that formulation is a problem.

for all functions, simply substitute the given variable with the given value:
f(x) = 3x + 20 over x
= [3(4) +20]/4
= 32/4
= 8

ANSWER-- 8

so 3(4) + 20 + 12 + 20 + 32

32/4 = 8
