It just seems like 70 Million to Drew and the first 1/3 of the season he hasn't really been much. Trot wasn't great, but he is in the top 30 of Sox history in HR, RBI, and OBP. I want to know what other Sox fans think.

It's almost a push, both are the same type player and have the potential for injuries. If I had to pick one I would go with Trot Nixon, I believe he is a better teammate in the clubhouse.

Nixon was a good player, a bit overrated in Boston because he was a "dirtdog", great teammate, and played hard (he did not play smart, though it has been romanticized that he did)
He had reached his ceiling after his time in Boston. Best case for him was .280/20/80. Not bad but he is on the downside of his career.
That said, I was not a fan of the Drew signing for that money. They could have kept Nixon at a fraction the cost and gotten comparable production since Drew is often hurt. Long term, the jury is still out, but I wouldn't have given JD Drew that money.

As of right now, I would rather have Nixon, Drew is making 14mil this year, Nixon is making 3mil. Nixon is a Boston type of player. The original Dirt-dawg. He runs out ground balls, dives for line drives, and never whined. Drew is a good player, but there is no way he is worth 70mil over 5 years.

I would say so. I can see what they were trying to do but Drew isn't perfoming yet and Sox fans love Trot. Even now that he's gone.

Drew started off on fire , hitting and defense , were smoooth,idk it just does'nt seem like a normal slump it's almost like he's lost. With that Trot is play pretty well with the Indians but come on folks he was lookin pretty washed up and spent alot of time ,just about every year on the dl. still love the Dirt Dog tho .

I would say it was not such a good idea! Drew is way over-paid! I am shocked he is still even on the field. But hey maybe playing for a conteder will motivate him more! I am all for Trot!
