The Tungabhadra River is formed by the confluence of the Tunga and Bhadra Rivers. The catchment or drainage area for these rivers consists mainly of the Western Ghats mountain range and most of the Indian state of Karnataka, as well as part of Andhra Pradesh state. It then merges with the Krishna River and flows into the Bay of Bengal.
