Spirit in the Sky - Norman Greenbaum
Shine - Collective Soul

Are these songs "Christian Rock"? Why or why not? What makes a song "Christian Rock"? To be "Christian Rock" does a song have to repeatedly hit you over the head with phrases like "God/Jesus is Great/Love", or "praise/worship Him"?

I would say yes, they are christian rock, because they mention Heaven and Jesus as a major focus of the song. Also, the band itself is what's known as Christian Rock, that's the label they have chosen. So I think it's fine to call those bands "Christian rock" bands, but if they made a song that didn't mention heaven/god at all, I'm not sure i would call that a Christian Rock SONG. The band, however, is still christian rock.

that's how i see it anyways. Have you heard "The Fold"'s music? I really like it and it's supposedly "christian" but isn't blatantly centered on god. I especially like the song "New Skeptic" from their new album.
