Was he removed because of perceived negative stereotyping? I used to love Speedy, and I'm a very tolerant person.

Hey, Bob Mc. Thanks for the input re: disc with Speedy on it. I'll admit I haven't seen the show on the cartoon network in Canada lately, but the question still bothered me.
Thanks everybody for your answers!

I haven't watched reruns of the Bugs Bunny show anytime recently, so I didn't realize this was an issue. But I suppose it is because of the possibly offensive stereotype. Although it seems like this would be a positive thing since Speedy always comes out as a winner.

If they are that concerned with negative stereotypes they better drop Foghorn Leghorn too, he makes Southerners look pretty silly sometimes. Oh yeah, and lose Yosemite Sam, real cowboys might get offended. And don't forget Porky Pig, Sylvester & Tweety, and Elmer Fudd...we don't want to make people with real speech impediments feel bad.

I guess what I'm trying to say is our political correctness in the nation today has gotten ridiculous.

I didn't even know the Bugs Bunny show was still on. What channel? I know that Cartoon Network pulled him for a few years, but Latinos effectively lobbied to bring him back, which they did. Also, the Looney Tunes Gold Collection #4 has a whole Speedy disc. I always liked those cartoons - I'm a big fan of Sylvester the Cat.

Yes, from what I heard a lot of Spanish people thought Speedy was a negative perception of them. But really, come on. He showed loyalty to his friends by saving them and he always defeated Sylvester, or who ever was the villian of the show.

Trust me, there are worse negative stereotypes other than Speedy Gonzales.

Yea some schmucks with no sense of humor found him to be offensive. Just like the Taco Bell dog. It's all really sad. Which reminds me, why is the little Asian character on the cartoon Xialon Showdown yellow? Hmmmm.....

Probably due to 'political correctness'. Jeez half the stuff that was on when I was a kid was majorly offensive. Those two crows...Heckle and Jecklyl...ughhh..
