You probably need the DivX codecs.

Burning to a DVD wouldn't work because you're computer can't view the file to convert it. Whether you want to view it on your computer or burn it to DVD, you still need the specific codec that your file is encoded in.

You can get codec packs that are bundled with dozens of codecs so you never run into this problem again. I recommend the K-lite codec pack here:

It's free of course...

Depending on the type of file, you may need to convert it in order to burn it on a dvd for a dvd player.

Also depending on the type of file, you could try the codec from http://www.xvid.org

xvid codec covers DivX as well as xvid, so it would be better than the standard DivX codec.

Depends on what codecs are installed on your dvd player.

try downloading a codec pack (google)

and for god sakes use VLC player to watch videos, that way you have about every codec you need

Try using AlShow, it has many codecs already included. Plus, it's faster and better than Windows Media Player.
