Does god really exsist, is there some energy above us that that helps us, that we can rely on in any situation and pray that it will solve our problems? Or people just "invented" it, so there would be someone to blame at htere every day problems?
I wouldn't call myself a believer, but I think that a person should never loose his believe in anything, not particulary god, but it can be love, or even his own power to change himself or the world and to make it a better place. What do you think?

Yes, I believe God is real.

God helps those who help themselves. He's not Santa Claus. He won't just solve all of our problems for us- but he is willing to assist us in our struggles, if we believe in him, and if we honestly call to him in prayer.

A bench cannot create itself. It takes a carpenter to build it with his own two hands. Man did not create itself. God created man, although some people believe, as you pointed out, that God is a fairy tale. That is an inverted truth. I know that Nietzsche asked "is man a creation of God...or is God a creation of man?" And that is a valid question. But people are misunderstanding the order of creation when they think that man created God, because, again, it is the other way around.

Yes, beliefs (as long as they are for the good) are beneficial to us. In fact, they determine our reality.

What I or other people think regarding the existence of God, should only be important to you in terms of how it affects your position in the on-going debate. The only protection you are likely to get is from other humans. God, whether it exists or not, has no direct control over you or anything for that matter. This is essentially the Deist position, that after God created everything and set it in motion, he has taken no further part in the procedings.
Even the most casual observation of your world should be enough to convince you that there is no all powerful being in charge of the way things are going on this planet. It has been in varying states of chaos since time immemorial. The power of prayer is autopsychological. If you believe that it helps you, then it may well, but it is likely that you will see things that convince you of its efficacy simply because you want to.
Frankly, we have little chance to create change on a global scale. We can only act locally - we can change ourselves and hope that the ripple this change creates radiates outward affecting else.

I don't believe that the Christian, Muslim, Jewish type god exists; the closest thing to a god I believe in is a type of energy greater than humans - but this is not a benevolent ominipotent "god"; more of an impotent energy form.

However, I do believe that there is a great power; a power created by humanity when we love and care for each other. There is no way to deny the wonderful things people can do when we work together. I do not believe we need god or an idea of god in order to improve the world or oursleves - in fact, historically, religion and belief in god has caused more horrific problems than humans alone...

I think you got a very good idea about, whom God or that great power you mention, is. and to answer your question, I can truly said, yes God exist, in our heart, any and everywhere, the problem is that He is a very Busy man, and because life is a simple thing, HIM(God), gave us the freedom, we need in order to have our own experiences, and the freedom to decide what to become, Humans??,
"I think there for I'm", God will not change HIM self, but, will improved the World, his creation, because believed or not, he has to finish his heavenly world as well.

I agree with you if you think that there is something wrong in the World, But, if it was wrong to kill Jesus in the first place, don't you think, God will let us pay some of the price His Loving Son will pay for our salvation, right where everything begun. what do you think? ??

If I had a dollar for every time this question gets asked here, I would be a rich man.

Yes. I think God exists, but God is not your mom. He isn't going to solve all your problems. He isn't going to "protect" people from all harm. Life is what it is. You do the best you can, and if I turn out to be right, you'll be rewarded for it when you die. If not, then it doesn't even matter. Have a nice day!

You're right , but I would exchange the word "know/knowledge" for your use of belief/believe.

God has two aspects: originally the word meant the divine or perfect goodness, both your unique 'concept' AND the external 'experience' of reality available to each of us. A more contemporary way of understanding why "God" appears to intervene (at least in some cases) is that we are embedded in a multidimensional reality that is responsive to consciousness (individually and en masse). It is a mirror of mind. Unfortunately it reflects the totality of one's beliefs about self and the world which is mostly unconscious. This is behind religions' emphasis on "purification" symbology and philosophy's focus on reason, perception and the 'nature' of true knowledge.

I believe a higher power exists, God if you will, but don't believe its role is to watch over every human and solve every minor problem we have during our lifetime.
Of course, its quite possible God is an invention of the human mind; but why? What caused us to even invent it (assuming we did) in the first place?
I think we are responsible for our own actions on earth; making our own decisions. We're offered interesting choices in our lives every now and again, but ultimately, its we who have to choose.

If by God you mean that Big Guy in the heavens that we have to pray to and all our sins forgiven if we just repent?
No way!

I think of God as the energy which made this universe. Not some saint who'll stick his finger and help the nice people in this world.

Maria, The evidence for a God isn't there. We (humans) are most likely on our own. Maybe, we should care a little more about each other since we find ourselves in this vast darkness without Santa Claus, Tooth Fairies or Nice Jesus.

Gods were invented by swindlers to use to take money from people for doing nothing real. Tithing is really grand larceny. I would not give some priest 10% of my money (but I had to give Uncle Sam 46% of it). A fable by Aesop has the moral that "The gods help those who help themselves". Who needs gods? I do not!!!!!
