I broke three bones of my left ankle many, many years ago. Now I have no fluid in my ankle joint, so it is bone rubbing against bone! I still have a lot of trouble if I do too much walking, walk in the wrong shoes, or sit too long in a car.
Before I broke a bone and had to use crutches, I always thought it looked neat to walk on crutches. It is not!!!
I had a cast on for 8 weeks, then had an ankle brace for many years.
What bone did you break? Hope you find a lot of good books to read this summer. It is tough to miss out on going to the beach....but you can read about going a lot of places.
Happy healing!

Let me say you are lucky you only broke your leg!!! My brother wrecked his motorcycle and it pretty much ripped his leg in half, broke his pelvis, collar bone, hip, and shoulder. Although he's able to walk he'll have to have a hip and leg replacement soon. He's only 26 and unable to stand for longer than 10 minutes at a time, and in constant pain.
I've broken vertebrae in my back, dislocated disc, broken my tailbone, and my ribs. Also tiny bones in my hands and feet.
I'm clumsy so my hands and feet were broken by tables, doors and anything else you can think of. I also had a patio brick dropped on my foot.
My tailbone and problems with my back, are the result of when I was going to school the school refused to put things on the stone steps to keep you from slipping ... So yeah my tailbones been broken repeatedly along with about 50 other peoples.
My ribs - I fell, you don't wanna know. I went to the hospital and they sent me home saying heres some vikadin we wont wrap your ribs up because we don't feel like it, have a nice day. They never healed right and 6 years later I'm still in pain.
Good luck!

I broke my foot when someone dropped a paving stone on it - ow! It took about 6 weeks to mend, but it was about 1 year before it felt back to normal. The time your break will take to heal depends upon whether it was the femur (thigh bone), tibia (shin bone) or the fibula (the little side bone in the lower leg that looks like a violin bow)...the later doesn't really cause too much of a problem...the other bones you can reckon on 8 weeks...I presume you haven't needed plates or pins. Then they'll take the support off and you'll get physical therapy to help you get back to weight bearing and then walking....my advice - think up a project that you can accomplish in the time you are not so mobile - teach yourself something - so you aren't seeing life pass you by..and when you are back on your feet you will have something to show for your enforced "rest". Get well soon!

I broke my wrist when I fell off a platform onto the street. I was visiting and the hospital there would not accept responsibility for me since the break was complicated and sent me home 100 miles to "my own doctor". It was very uncomfortable. Once taken care of the cast came off in about 6 weeks but the bone healed differently so It took me about a year to get used to it

1. collarbone when I was born. Only took about a month to heal
2. wrist, 3 places 8 weeks
3. foot/toes 6 weeks
4. arm 5 places 11 weeks
5. ankle, 6 weeks
6. leg, severe break, 7 places, still in a cast from it. been about 12 weeks it'll take up to a year for it to totally heal
I'm always in a cast or something!!! A bunch of them were from one car accident including the leg. Good luck!

A few years ago I broke the toes on my left foot. The problem with broken toes is that they don't put a cast on but try to immobilize them by using the toe next to it for support. That was sort of difficult as the three middle toes were all broken. I had some level of pain for about 4 weeks. A lot of pain at first and after the first couple of weeks the pain was only when I stepped on it wrong. GOOD LUCK

Well when I was 10 I broke my wrist. It's a really funny story. I got dared to go down our really steep hill on a scooter with no brakes. So my wheel started to swivel and I tried to turn but I couldn't and the funny part was that my brother said I was laying in the street, but I wasn't. I had a cast for 4 weeks and then a splint for 2 weeks. The only reason I remember this is because it was only 3 years ago.

I broke my ankle when I was 26 years of age. I tripped in a hole while walking on grass and I had on high heels. That happened in 1977. I still have problems and pain in this area. The normal Complete healing time is about six months. I think the biggest problem is the damage to the tendons and muscles. That's what keeps causing the pain.

Haha, broke many bones, arm, collar, leg, ankle, other leg.
My last break was my leg, it was a tib/fib fracture. Got the rod and screws and the whole nine yards. It took 2 months to heal and anothe 2-3 months to rehab and get back to where I was before.
My advise, stay active in things you can because you will get fat if you don't. Eat a great diet and workout what you can. Good food and exercise will help the healing process.
Best of luck to you, sorry for that your summer is shot!

I have been fortunate as the only bone I have broken is my pinky toe twice. First time I broke it I was trying to avoid stepping on my daughter and kicked the door jam in the process, the next time I was stepping over my kids bike and didn't step high enough. It took a couple of weeks to heel , the first one I had to have reset, even though just a pinky toe it was painful. It took a couple of weeks for the bruising to go away and for it to heal. Hope you can still enjoy summer somehow
