There are times where we are 1st.
Let us not forget that.
Maybe the times we come 2nd, are cases where it is safer for us not to come 1st.
Let us not forget that too.
It hurts, I know, but we can't all be 1st in everything, all the time.
It is life...

because 2nd is the worst position than all of them, that's why it hurts so much. Think about, it if you came in second then what stop you from coming 1st? That's why it hurts

Everyone wants to feel first in everything. Personally, I want to know for a fact that I’m on someone’s mind and not just when I initiate contact. I want someone to think of me first every once in a while not just after I’ve thought of them.
Second place makes me feel inferior and undervalued. It allows my thoughts to race and believe that I am less than best. Anything that fuels these thoughts will increase thoughts of low self worth and self esteem. These are not good things.
If I have to settle for anything then it isn’t worth it. I, personally, refuse to settle for second. I am worth a he!! of a lot more than some of those around me give me credit for and I’ll be damned if I allow anyone to encourage negative thoughts.

It hurts so much because we all want to be the best but remember that if you got out there and did your best then you are a winner no matter what place you took. Chin up and keep going.

hi.
i think that because if you come in any other late degree,it may be okay.
since there are many others who are also late, and you didn't do this much work, like when you come in the 22nd place.
but when you come in THE SECOND PLACE particularily,it means that you really worked hard to reach the FIRST PLACE,but unfortunately you missed it.
so you'll feel that your working hard was to some extent in vain.
and this really hurts.
that's it.
and i hope you could always be in the first place.
good luck :-)

Because we have been taught from a young age only being number one counts but no one is number one in everything. So we just need to identify our strengths, work on them and proceed to be the best we can. Anyway being number one isn't all it's cracked up to be.

One step short of victory...one step into some frustration that lingers with the joy of having done well....and a lot of second guessing about what small things caused us to just miss winning.

humans are driven by an innate survival instinct - theyve evolved to win, to succeed, to be first
same theyve evolved to procreate. thats why it would hurt spending your whole life alone
thats also why it hurts to be 2nd
1st is everything
2nd is nowhere
if you were a hunter gatherer, 2nd would be death
think about it

I think the problem for me is not that someone is "better" than me, but that I let myself down in some way. It makes me feel that I wasn't good enough for some stupid standard that I set for myself.
