it is a shame and it will take time to overcome this embedded bigotry in our society. things are getting better but we still have a ways to go.

I watched girls walk down the halls holding hands all the time and no one ever said anything about it.
Guys on the other hand, hold hands in the huddle, on the sports field and even smack each others butts. No one says a thing about it, and no one gets suspended.
What we are looking at though is why would two guys get suspended for public displays of affection in school? I will tell you. It has to do with masculinity. In this country men are raised to be rugged, individualistic, rough and ready men. You have heard it even in our nursery rhymes. Made with nails snails and puppy dog tails. If you do not meet this you are looked down upon. You do not even have to be gay. If you are straight and show effeminate attitudes you are looked down upon. Oh look how girly he is. On the other hand when the captain of the football team comes out as gays what is the first thing everyone says? Oh man I would never have thought he was gay. Look how tough he is.
If you violate the set standards of manhood you are discredited and belittled, this attitude even comes from the officials in school. If you show yourself not to fit into what is expected you will find yourself on the outside looking in.
Is this proper behavior of such an advanced society as ours? Maybe not, but it is the way we have been since 1629 when the Mayflower first touched American soil.

You can get suspended for holding hands with the opposite sex at most schools. It's called PDA and some schools take it seriously. It sucks I know.

It's the fear of the unknown. People hate or fear anything that they're not familiar with.
If people automatically hate something just because of the lack of familiarity then they prove taht they're shallow because you can't hate something you don't even know. If you don't know it, then how can you make an opinion regarding it? For forming opinions, you need to have a base, and that base is called knowledge. all those people who instinctively take the path of hate are shallow and unreasonable.
I find it disgusting taht there are rules in school regarding homosexuality. Those idiots who established those rules should first see all the rapes and all the abuse that goes on in the so called straight side. I really don't understand how they can allow sexual acts to go on in school as long as they're heterosexual but condemn everything that is homosexual in nature. And those places called school are supposed to have education purposes! That is obviously discrimination.
Just for the record, I'm pansexual, but even before I knew my sexual identity, I supported homosexuality and everything related to it because there's just too much discrimination to NOT support it .

People I know don't hate gays. They hate it when gays try to change our society as they do with trying to shove gay marriage down our throats. They also push to have their lifestyle taught to our children. Now they want hate crimes legislation which gives them MORE protection under the law than other people. What happened to equal protectioni under the law? They don't care about that. So, if gays don't want the bad feelings they experience, they can mind their business, stop teaching their lifestyle to kids and stop trying to change our society. Most people do not want what they try to mandate.

It's really stupid. How about people hating war or hate crimes...but hating for loving someone? It's so ridiculous to me. My brother in law is gay and I say - if you can find someone in this world to love no matter what race, religion or gender...Good for you.

Many people hate gay people because they have had it ingrained in them since birth. Family, church and school have taught them theat homosexuality is evil. In human history segments of society have always attacked those that are different from them. Sadly, though we live in a more educated society we do not seem to live in a more enlightened one.

people just fear what they dont really understand. they see it as "weird" or "strange", and that since they dont understand it that it must be immoral and wrong. but they dont even try to understand it or give it a chance. i would call those people ignorant. besides, do you go to a christian school or something? i think that could explain why, not that i agree with what they're doing or anything....

That is the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard. it's called being ignorant and close-minded. We are all human beings with feelings, what does it matter what our sexual preference is? Uh, it doesn't. People are just beings stupid and retarded.

I think guys that have a problem with it because they just cant imagine ever feeling the need or want to be sexually intimate with a guy. Christians hate them because its against their religion. Squeamish people cant stand the thought of a penis in a butt, and the rest of them well.....they're just wankers.
