What if lets say ichiro or someone who is really fast hits a ball and is either at third or passed second and there is a ground rule double.... do they go to second or third??? So in other words if there past second, do they have to go back to second?

If it is a ground rule double, the batter would return to second base regardless of how far he had gotten.

A ground rule double can only occur when the batted ball lands in fair territory and bounces over the fence or is touched by a fan. If one of these two situations occur it is a ground rule double no mater where the batter is on base path. Also, any runners that might be on base would get two bases from their starting point no matter where they are on the base path.

A ground rule double is a DOUBLE.

A DOUBLE lands you at second base, not third, which would be a TRIPLE.

Yikes!

A ground rule double is just that - a double. Doesn't matter which base the batter has actually reached.

Impossible to happen.....not even I "Mickey Mantle" was that fast.....it would have to be a "humongous" fly ball that would have to get him past 2nd........I could get to first in 3 seconds.....now what? 3 to 4 to 2nd?.......I sat her and counted to 7 and made me think that it might be possible.....but a gound rule double is a ground rule double.......go back to 2nd!!

It would be a double no matter where that batter ended up. If he was slow and only got to first it would still be a double.
