Personally I think too much pressure is put onto teachers and I can't see how letting the teachers search pupils is useful. The government should leave it purely in the hands of professionals and have students scanned at the gates. Get a feeling the UK is resembling old Detroit?

I believe 'pressure' is the right word here.

Unfortunately the next time there is a stabbing in a school, the media will immediately point the finger at the teachers - "why was he/she not searched?".

With added powers come added responsibility, and added blame potential.

Although, schools should not be expected to call the police every time they want to search someone...

Tricky situation, really

Totally right. Up until now if a teacher suspected a pupil had drugs, alcohol or an offensive weapon they couldn't search but had to call the Police. Don't you think it is much more sensible that teachers can now just ask them to empty their pockets and bag?

It is a sad state of affairs however that pupils in our schools are having to be searched.

Well its a good idea that pupils can be searched, but it should not be by teachers as its not really their job, although if any of the teachers are like the ones at my old school they will revel in their new powers !.

It should be done by security guards or specially trained personal, and if a pupil is found carrying a knife or weapon of any kind the parents should also be held accountable !.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that. You were simply helping a girl with her homeworking and doing something good- you don't deserve to be treated like that! She should have kept her opinions to herself- she certainly wouldn't like it if you went to her workplace and started talking about your beliefs, right? I would absolutely get a restraining order. It could definitely help you. I don't think it will make them more angry, but there's also the possibility. If someone does come back to start more trouble, I'd contact the police and ask them what can be done. Also, someone posted about moving to a coast.. I live in the north east and (Used to live in New York now I'm in Delaware) and it's still a bit of a hassle, with the religion. Good luck, I hope everything gets worked out.

It is a good thing and it should be done at random .

The Head should take 3 teachers to a randomly chosen class and search all pupils at least twice a week .

In a very short time kids will work out its just not worth carrying a knife .

I think the police should do the searches. The teachers should call the police if there is a problem. Teachers have enough to do without taking on police jobs.

I understand completely when you speak of the pressure this can put on a teacher, but I think they should have the ability to in specific situations (danger suspected, etc). There could come a time when it is necessary!!

It's a joke really because there's nothing stopping the searched kids from accusing their teachers of feeling them up! Unions are already warning of the possible consequences!

I think it is essential these days but i am concerned that teachers won't be safe in doing a job like that- sadly i think we will have to employ security teams for it.

You poor babies. Heaven forbid that your precious babies should be treated like the thugs in America.

No place in the world grows such vicious monsters as American teenagers. I mean, forget jihadists, brutal dictators or soccer hoolligans. American teens are the true source of evil in the Universe.
