I've got a cold water storage tank in the loft - so maybe all the cold water taps are fed from the tank. Maybe from the mains. Is there an easy way to tell? e.g How much liters per mintue can you expect to flow out of a gravity fed tap vs a mains fed tap? Can I use this to work out if all the cold water taps are mains fed?

just place your thumb or palm of your hand tight under water outlet, you can hold back a tank fed supply but not mains,if its mains supply you will be sprayed with water.

The water storage tank in the loft supplies your Hot water. So all your cold taps are fed from the mains.

Normally your kitchen will be the inlet from the mains supply - that will also feed the tank which in turn will feed the bathroom taps - Find your stopcock and trace the pipe to the first tap - probably kitchen sink taps - that is your mains supply - find the spur point and you will see the pipes run up to the tank -

the chance's are your cold water is mains feed, as for checking turn off your mains stop valve, then see if water is running in your cold tap. if it is, then yes your header tank feed it. if not then its mains feed.

Your kitchen should be mains, the others need not be. Do as Sean says to test.
