I have a house ant problem. Yesterday, I came home and found that a burger had apparently fallen out of my freezer when I opened it last--and it was covered in hundreds of ants! Through the use of Fantastik! and cleaning the kitchen really well, there's much fewer now. . . but how to get rid of them without hurting my cat? Many of the remedies I've seen say you have to find the source--this is not an option. There is no window in this room. I just want to get rid of the little buggers. Advice? Thanks.

I'd like serious answers only, please. If the two points is really that important to you, so be it. . . but grow up.

you could try those ant traps.. the ants take the bait and take it back to their colony, where it kills them all.. It's worked for me.

I don't think that a cat would be bothered by this, as long as he's not eating the ants.

Put your cat in a room as far from the kitchen as possible.. Sweep and vacuum the floor any tiny fragment of food or grain of sugar will attract them. Then give it a good mopping.Clean all the counters so no food is open and any open food is sealed tight or at least has a twist tie on it. Get some Raid and spray all the baseboards, and the door way and let air dry about 15 minutes.. open the door until the scent is gone., there is one out there that has a barrier will last 6 months to a year and its working for me!
If you have a small kitchen this will all take about 30 minutes and once you have done that I would suggest spraying the baseboards of the living room, dining room and bath. They come in through the pipes and any tiny crack in the walls.
Let kitty back into the main area once dried it won't harm the cats I have 2 and if you do it this way it works fine.

p.s. ants love cat food so spraying the doorway, and baseboards will keep them away from his food too!

I heard somewhere about using the sticky paper that you use to trap mice. Put a drop of honey in the center and put it where your cat cannot reach it. I used one for mice and my cat got stuck on it.

After you do that get some Spearmint plants and edge your house with them. About once or twice a week break the ends of the leaves so that the Spearmint odor is smelt. The ants cannot stand the smell of Spearmint and will stay away from your house. This really does work. My grandmother had done it for years. Then one of my aunts asked if she could take some for her house, Grandma said yes and my aunt nearly took it all. After that the ants have come back. Make sure you plant it thick.

it relies upon why you want to kill them certainly, in case you attempt to be humane then I wouldnt difficulty. while my grandma moved into her homestead there have been the unusual few ants and he or she didnt experience it replaced into neccessary to kill all of them off. inspite of the shown fact that some years down the line they have been over working the backyard. If she observed basically one ant she could be chasing it with ant powder. i could reccommend the right ant killers, they artwork nicely

You'll be fine it you get the ant baits. I had a cat chew on one of them once. I freaked out, called the vet, and they said not to worry. It's the same pesticide used to kill fleas on cats. So unless your cat eats the entire box of baits, you shouldn't have a problem.

Step on them then throw them out the door. and if that doesn't work, get an anteater and put the ants and anteater in the same box.
