on the TV listings is wrote they would show 'saving private ryan' but they showed 'harts war' instead

Since I don't live where you live, I'm not sure what network "channel 5" is. ABC, NBC, CBS? I know that in the past my local ABC affiliate didn't show Saving Private Ryan because that they felt it was too graphic for their audience. Local affiliates do have the right to pre-empt the networks programming if they feel that it would offend their viewers.

I wondered that, I was going watch it. Well the first 30 minutes anyway, I can't be bothered to watch the rest after they kill off Vin Diesel's character.

because only the first twenty minutes is worth watching, so they might have shown that and then put a proper war film on lol!!!
